cub cadet M-60 tank Hydraulic issues
#810883 - 01/22/06 11:12 AM Edit Reply Quote

I Have an m-60 tank, several years old. with 1200 hours on the unit. I bought it at an auction. After replacing a couple of oil seals, and the PTO, it now, will barely move out of it own way. it will sometime go forward, will not go in reverse, and the fluid in the Hydraulic reserve tank is frothy looking, like air is in it. about 2 months ago, it would ride around fine, no thought of hydro issues. I see NO leaks Any help would be appreciated. I am not a certified mechanic, but can hold my own if some point me in the right direction. Do I need to rebuild 1 of the pumps or all of them? if so what difficulty would it be? it seems that if I hold both levers forward, it will get enough pressure to go. Where do I start, it has individual wheel motors and pumps. Thanks

I'm not familiar with yours, but when I had my hydralic pump rebuilt for my dozer, it was fairly involved. Tolerances are very precise and with all the preasure they generate, the smalllest mistake or impurity could easily ruin it.

When the company rebuilt my pump, they said they wouldn't give me a warantee unles they went through the drive moter too.

Even the smalles metal flake can destroy the pump and motor.

In my case, I had a spring break and part of it got into the fluid causing damage all through the pump.

Cost for my dozer was around $2,000 for the pump and $1,000 for the motor. I took them out and installed them myself. It was a huge pain to do so, but I saved quite a bit on labor doing what I was capable of.

This probably has no bearing to your application at all, but then again, it might give you a point of reference.

Good Luck,
Eddie

I would check the suction screen in the tank to see if it is stopped up. If so that will cause the pump to suck air around the seal resulting in the foaming that you are seeing in the tank. If there is foam in a hydralic tank it is from an air leak on the suction side of the pump.

where would I locate the screen? Thanks

sns, Oil seals replaced then it won't go... Assuming the belts and all went back together as they came off and are on the correct side of the tensioners(sometimes the belt can jump a tensioner) .
The suction screen would be in the bottom of the hydraulic tank... If you haven't changed the hydraulic fluid and filter now would be a good time to do so. Is at all possible that since you have had it, water has some how gotten into the system ? From your discripition it sounds like either air leak like mentioned above or maybe water in the mix /forums/images/graemlins/confused.gif have you had the hydraulic filter off? If so maybe check the gasket seal on the filter, worth a try.

I know the hoses and pump drives are sold as one unit...hopefully you won't have to go that route...$$$

I sure hope that doesn't mean you know from experience. /forums/images/graemlins/frown.gif

Chad, Well no I haven't But I did ask before I bought just for my own information ie:" How much are the hoses if one needs replaced?" His reply was they are replaced as a unit with the pump... /forums/images/graemlins/crazy.gif

I'm almost certain a hose shop could make replacements if necessary... /forums/images/graemlins/smirk.gif

snsgraphics, I'd like to help, but first I want to know what an M-60 is. My first thought was some kind of firecracker, then I thought of a grenade launcher then a military tank. I can't figure it out. More info wanted, please. Later, Nat
