Hi everyone. Soon my new 1643 will arrive....but with all the safety devises they put on the new tractors, I,m asking myself CAN THE P.T.O. WORKS WITHOUT BEING ON THE DRIVER SEAT??? If you are on neutral you can leave the seat but if the PTO is engaged you cannot leave, the engine will stop. I need the tractor to winch trees and it is not safe to stand on the tractor while logging with the winch...or if you use a poll digger you need to be in the back of the tractor with the PTO running. So how do you do that???? I,ve seen a little white plastic arm that depressed when you seat, do we need to fix that little arm down so this ***wise** seat will think we are seating on the tractor or do we need to do something else.
With my 1959 Oliver there was no such safety devises .....was there any safety devises lol lol
I,m counting the days for the arrival of my new 1643.

Thanks Dieselfreak.......Of course , bypass the switch.....but the only problem is that I know nothing about electricity....it,s not because I,m dumd (I think) :D only because wire and I seems like strangers...I remember seeing a connection with a few wires( 2 or 3) under the seat when I went to the dealer but did not pay too much attention I thought there was a way to have the pto working without bypassing anything, like putting the parhing brake or who knows how... What do I have to do to bypass those wires. I know that companies have to protect themselves against some court pursuit, but they should think that some may have to use their tractor and the pto without sitting on it ( like using a pto pump, a generator , a logging winch etc...) thanks for answering, have a nice day. Probably with the park (emergency?) brake on, then you will be able to leave the seat.
There likely is a way to do what you want to do, and a good question to ask the dealer/salesman (in hopes that he/she knows).

However, I jumpered the socket to the seat switch with a wire loop, and all is fine. Just that I don't have that protection.

Thanks for the answer Beenthere and Dieselfreak. Called my seller today and he told me to bypass the wires.:( When I told him if it would work if I just attach the little depressing arm down ( this little plastic arm goes down when we sit)he told me it would be a very good way without touching any electric wire. I just could not imagine myself carrying a stone and put it on the seat to have my pto working when I,m not sitting hihihi :D:laughing:Have a nice day everyone. Roger

Some tractors will run the PTO with you off the seat if you have the seat all they way up (little lever flipped into the air), the parking brake on and you engage the PTO AFTER leaving the seat.
Might be worth checking (this should be detailed in the owners manual) before snipping wires.

No need to 'snip' any wires. Take the connector apart and insert a jumper wire to make the "seat" connection.

I have a 1643 and if the PTO is running you have to be in the seat. I thought about your problem and this is what I would do. Make a braket with a 3-way switch so that the seat switch can be by-passed when using the winch or whatever, then when you are say mowing you can flip the 3-way switch and the seat switch is back in the loop.

Roger-- On the 2310, sometimes cold weather prevents the seat from being able to flex enough to trip the switch...

There's a two-wire plug that goes to the switch on mine; a short jumper with spade terminals will work. Just unplug the connector from the seat switch, push the jumper into it.

Eatenabean's idea of a toggle switch sounds very good, wouldn't be hard to do- a switchable bypass for the seat switch. I like that idea.

Here's what my jumper looks like.

Depending on how much pressure it takes for the seat switch to operate, A strong bungee cord from the top of the seat to the frame might be enough to pull the seat down, and complete the circuit. . You could also make up a latch assembly. Depending on your skills.
