54 HP version ?
My M4900 manual says 50.5 net hp and max torque 126.1@ 1400 to1600 rpm.
I suppose the gross hp maybe 54 hp.
While those are the numbers in my day to day use I would say it has plenty!

That is good to know as well. I guess there is an advantage to buying near the end of a production run.
I found the info in the operators manual, in the specifications section.
These tractors (M4700, M4900, M5400, M5700) all use the same basic engine - the F2803 - 5-cylinders, 167 cu in smoothie that dates back to the mid '80's. In the various models (Also used in the L4150, L4850, L5450) the HP rating has been between 50 and 60 gross hp. The "rated" hp is at different rpm's (2600, 2800 or "estimated") so nailing down a precise number for comparison purposes is not documented. This engine makes gobs of torque (120-130 ft-lb at 1300-1500 rpm). I've always thought the diesel pump/injector setup made the small differences in models. My L5450 has the 59.5 gross hp version. Have also noticed stationary generators and other industrial equipment list models with Kubota F2803 engines.

Thanks for the history, very interesting. I actually looked at a used L5450 before buying my M4900. Those tractors have very impressive spec's, the one I looked at was just a little to "used" for me.
I certainly agree that the 5 cyl. is very smooth.
