What is the difference between a Kubota M5040 and M5140? From what I have looked up I can find little difference but Kubota would not have changed the model number for an identical tractor.

The Kubota website lists a M5140 which is 52hp cab gear transmission with ?optional hydraulic shuttle shift.

The current website doesn't list a M5040. ?If it could be a previous iteration of the M5140.

There is a MX5100 which is a non cab ?50hp gear or HST tractor.

Kubota tractor naming standards are all over the map and nearly impossible to make sense of.

i believe the 5140 has a turbo (for emissions, no real power difference), the predecessor 5040 does not. don't know the other feature differences.

The M5040 has a larger engine, approx. 180 CID, natural aspiration, as opposed to the M5140 with smaller 148 CID turbo engine. The M5040 also came standard with draft control. I think draft control is an option on the M5140.
