New owner of a m5400 kubota, not sure of the year but was changing the hydralic oil and filters, when finished. Started the tractor, nothing works, no three point hitch, no steering, no pto. Also upon removing one of the filters I found some cardboard looked like gasket material. Could this be stoping up my intake tube ? Any help would be greatly apprecitaed.

If you have absolutely no functions your pump is obviously starved for oil.

Is the hydraulic oil level at the proper point=full sight glass etc.?

The issue is whether the pump is damaged or the suction lines are plugged
with so much debris its affected both pump sections which is what is sounds like.

i would see how difficult it is to remove the suction lines from the reservoir to the pumps and start from there if you are comfortable doing that.

Were the hydraulics working okay before you changed the oil and filters?

If you accidentally got packaging material in the suction filter before installing it, you could have effectively blocked the pump suction line and starved the pump for oil. As leonz said, you really need to make sure the suction line and pump are clear of debris. This may require draining the oil, removing the pump.

If your suction filter did not have a good seal because of the debris, it could have allowed the pump to just suck air.

If you think the blockage was contained in the filter, you could either remove the blockage or replace the filter. Start the tractor and check for hydraulic function at idle, but do not let it run long if you have no hydraulics as you could damage the pumps.
