McCallum,

You win the prize for best way to improve a Kubota!! /w3tcompact/icons/laugh.gif

If you're truly having the problems that you stated, the problem is that the weights were made for a "REAL" tractor, and that little orange thing needs to bear down and get tough if it can!!! /w3tcompact/icons/laugh.gif /w3tcompact/icons/laugh.gif

Thanks for the laugh, JimBinMI

For gawd's sakes, man -- IT'S A VIRUS!!!. /w3tcompact/icons/shocked.gif

Either get them things offa there before it takes over your whole machine or whip out a can of orange paint!!!

BTW - I'm planning on applying similar "accessories" (without the graffiti) as soon as I can get to it. Do you notice the difference in traction or stability right away?

MaCallum,

Dog gone, you got me going. There are very few posts about the M series. I couldn't click on your post fast enough. When the picture came up I died laughing. Very funny!

What the heck does that add on do?

To all - Somtimes I just can't help myself. I had the Ford weights laying around and thought I would put em to use so I made a little bracket to mount on my Kubota just for fun. They are functional in that they do add rear ballast. Don't know the exact weight but probably about 75# each and I have 2 on each wheel. Difference in traction not noticeable as I already have fluid in rears and I have not really put the tractor to any real pulling tests. I'm at 16 hours now and still just taking it easy. I did pull some hackberry saplings yesterday just to see how it would do. My old Ford 1900 would have had a problem with some of them in the traction department. The 5700 yanked 2" to 3 1/2" saplings right out. Stump (if you want to call it that) Roots and all. No wheel slippage and she didn't even grunt. The weights want hurt and I will never be able to tell a difference not having tried it out prior to install. Just wanted to use em and keep a little reminder of the ol Ford that served me so well for so long. Hope you guys had fun with it as I did.

BillC - Know what you mean - Few M posts and I jump on them too. Sorry to get you excited for nothing.

McCallum -

I enjoyed this thread a lot. /w3tcompact/icons/laugh.gif

This board runs the gammut from deadly serious to witty humor. Kind of keeps things balanced.

All humor aside for the moment, I was interested in how the wheel weights performed for you, but since your mighty 'M' is about twice the size of my little 'L' I guess 300 pounds of extra weight would have much less effect for you.

My rear tires are filled also, but I seem to be able to spin all four on a regular basis. I know I'm pushing my tractor's limits with all the FEL digging I've been doing, but I feel I'm wasting what horsepower I have if I spin the wheels before stalling the engine.

I'm planning on adding about 400 pounds of wheel weights, which is slightly more than the manual recommends, but I'm hoping that will squeeze a little more efficiency out of my existing horsepower.

I think the size of my 'L' is perfect for my property in the woods, but I will always lust for more weight and power. /w3tcompact/icons/crazy.gif

Harv - Not having any practical experience, or really pulling anything with my M5700 prior to adding the 300# of weight I just can't say how much it may have improved.

I can however tell you that my old 1900 probably weighed in around 2600 - 2800#. I could tell a difference with the wheel weights on it. Traction was improved, but not dramatically. That little tractor would try to pull anything but alas be defeated by physics and tire spin. I don't know what weight range your Grand L is in but the 400# you plan to add should make a positive difference. Improved traction as well as counter weight for FEL.

I have not used my FEL enough to judge that either and have never owned one before. I can tell you this through experience , regardless of the implement, FEL bucket, Box Blade, etc. you can dig too deep, try to drag too much and introduce slippage of tires and/or get stuck with anything.

Add that weight and let us know. I'm really more interested to see what you cast up (previous post of yours) with that lead you have. I should have known you would be the one to have "Custom" wheel weights.
