M59 and a snow pusher?

The chains shown here are copies of St Pierre rollers,, Doesn't matter, copy or not, they work extremely well, I have never heard nor seen anyone with any type machine have a problem with the front axle, bearings or other,, I have used them some in the springtime snows and that mud, without a problem. I haven't ever run them "strictly" in mud only.,. I will guess they still perform great in mud too.,

Since I started this thread I bought a used JD 110 tlb. I couldn't justify the cost of a new M59 and there are no used ones, so I got a decent deal on a hardly used 110 and went for it.

I also picked up a 9' pusher in the mean time. It is a heavy duty 9' Fisher plow with ends welded onto it. It was used on an older full size backhoe, so I cut the back A-frame and welded a SS quick attach plate close the back of the blade. The tractor handles it pretty well, much better now that I have chains on the rear tires. I use to plow the snow up into piles with my plow truck and then move the piles with the loader so there would be plenty of room for horse trailers. Now it is much quicker to push the snow with the pusher to where I want it.

The 110 also has very little room between the tires and fenders. AKfish on here found out that Bobcat dealers sell wheel spacers for use with tracks on skid steers. These spacers also fit the 110 perfectly, you guys may want to look into this to see if they would fit the M59. The spacers are made by Grouser and cost about $250.

Good info....I probably wouldn't be in strictly mud either, mostly this time of year where you have all of it mixed into one when you go through where water is still somewhat moving.

Do you have any experience with chains on a M59? Thanks.

The chains for our M59 are still hanging in the barn - still right where they were hung up two years ago. It's a custom set made up to my specs by the local tractor shop based on my experience and preferences with 4wd tractors and chains in general. Every use is different, so chain sets vary a lot.

Shame we've not yet had to use them. The M59 wide construction tires does pretty well in the snow - though so far we only use it with the bucket. For serious hard and heavy blade work there's the vintage JD 530 with ag tires handling a big old style Rhino three point blade. We also have chains for that combo, but it's way different from the M59. And again it's usually not necessary to put them on.

I think the most important thing about chains is not whether to have them, but how they should be constructed. My own preference is conservative as I figure that traction is less important than breaking things. But that may be because I don't tend to force my machines - I enjoy using them and use them easily. After all, if I don't break something I get to do it again tomorrow. A guy living near me has the opposite philosophy - beats up his machines - and it works for him too. There are a ton of options.
