M59 and a snow pusher?

thanks larry, I appreciate it.

The only thing I can see obviously being better from not having them on the rear is less chance of flipping over backwards, but I believe you front chains are better, and I just don't get it - that's fine, plenty of things in life I don't get but still believe!

And if front chains work, I sure bet they are cheaper and easier to put on to boot... I'll get in touch with St. Pierre.

Think front chains would be useful in mud too?

As I have stated so many times over the years here and on other sites,, in this neighborhood about since time, and someone named dirt, dirt, machine operators always chain the fronts only and never the rears, Once you plow some, and get into some of those huge piles at the end of a Home Depot parking lot or similar,, it hits home then. Mud, I never had the ocassion to chain and go through mud, I would think just as good except maybe getting stuck and trying to reverse out,, Really not sure on mud,.,

My current setup is a 1980 Chevy K10 with a 7 1/2' plow. It is a dedicated plow truck so I have a good pile of sand in the back with chains on the rear. Like I said, even with this I end up taking at least 2 hrs to plow with a light snow and 3 hrs with more than 5". I do realize I could cut this time down a bit but my OCD cuts in and I can't leave any tails . A tractor with a plow will be slower than the truck since they don't move as fast, unless I get a really big plow.

I have thought about the snow blower for a while but the back half of the driveway is 1.5" trap rock and the front half is the same but it is embedded into the ground more. I am afraid the snow blower will throw the stones. I would have to leave the blower up then sand everything afterwards in fear of someone or a horse slipping when the rest of the snow gets packed down.

I was hoping the M59 would be heavy enough to push a pusher. I have never used a pusher, but they sell 8 & 10 ft models for Bobcats so I figured a M59 would be plenty to push it.

Overall the snow blower would probably be the best solution.

I greatly appreciate everyone's input.

If it were me, I'd get the pusher / tractor combo, and keep the plow truck for the long straights (you've already got it, and it won't be worth squat if you sell it)...

I've plowed a lot with p/u trucks (best is a 1 ton Chevy w/ a 8'2" BOSS V-Plow...). I think that for long stetches they're pretty hard to beat.

They can be tiresome in close quarters with obstacles though...esp if they have a manual trans.

was out plowing the dirt roads in the association today with the b3030 (still got the hoe on the M59, I'm still afraid of whether it'll be a nightmare to take off...). See what you say on the fronts - I never lost traction in the rears, but the fronts would spin on hills. And sometimes I then slid backwards down the hill, which is always fun. Though dropping the rear blade did make life better.

ANd I have the fronts loaded, as an aside.

I have a M59 with a 7.5' skid steer type hydraulic angle snow blade on the front end loader. On the steeper parts of my 1/2 mile long driveway it slides badly, especially if it is at all icy.

The owners manual and the local dealer both say you cannot chain up the front wheels, they say it will ruin the front drive. Does anyone have any experience or knowledge with this on a M59?

There does not appear to be room for chains on the rear without the $500+ Kubota rear wheel spacers. There is only about 1" between factory R4 tires and the fenders/fender bolts. Low profile cable type tire chains might fit. Does any one have any experience using chains on the rear of a M59 without the spacer kit?

I would appreciate hearing about any related experinces. Thanks much.

Bob, I have an M59. Used the bucket so far for snow. When you say slides do you mean to the side when the plow is angled?

Hello BandD,

I mostly experience slipping back down an icy driveway when plowing snow up a hill. This is what I am looking for a solution to.

I do sometimes get pushed to the side, away from the plow angle, but usually only when trying to push a really deep or crusted winrow of snow.

Do you have any experience with chains on a M59? Thanks.

Clearly you have never had the chance to own a 1977 International loadstar 4wd 2 1/2 ton dump with a 10' blade and a 446 v8. I can plow almost anything at about 30mph. Sorry for bragging but it's not too often I get to boast about old #15.

I found this site that has a picture of, I think anyway, of what looks and described as roller chain....Roller Grip Tire Chains, Municipalities Love Them! | Ken Jones Tire Blog I'm interested too, but I'm also wondering how they perform in mud also as that would be my major use for them.
