Kubota M59 TLB/ Mahindra Max 24 TLB/ KX-080-5
I have interest in wider BH buckets, with and without teeth, than existing 24" pin on. Is the M59 BH pin layout unique to Kubota or is the pin layout a standard and buckets for other machines/ other brands fit? Does quick attach, Kubota or aftermarket QA, increase the pool of available BH buckets? I don't care about teeth since I want flat cutting edge.

I have a quick attach on my L45, and the experience I found is that NOTHING is common. You can choose a Kubota quick attach and pick one that is common to the mini-excavators and MAYBE expand your options.

Where are you going to find random buckets? If they are all going to be yours, it doesn't really matter, pick a format and stick with it. If you have a local source for buckets to borrow, get the QA they use.

It's not like skid steer quick attach for the front, unfortunately.

If you search I asked this question a few years back.

From what I remember L48 pin on will fit on M59 pin on
There are Kubota excavator (KX?) pin on that will fit
I think there is an older version of the M59 QA that will work with the Kubota excavator buckets. At some point Kubota started making the M59 buckets. If you have that QA model I think it only works with the Kubota buckets if I remember correctly.

The older buckets were made by Werk-Brau. If you have that version of the QA you're in luck.

I think Messick was the one that answered my question.

I've thought about buying the Werk-Brau QA to replace my new version Kubota QA but then ...... I retired.

Another thought, if you have a copy of the Whole Goods document you can ck the model numbers for buckets that are the same as pin on M59 in the excavator section... These seem to be more available on the used market.

I'll take a look in my copy after my morning nap... :).

Kubota offers quick attach "ears" for the B26 and the L45 so I presume they have them for the M59 as well. If you purchase a set of these (around $150 CDN) you can cut the ears off a buckey you purchase and then cut the base of the ears to the shape of the bucket and weld them on. When I purchased my B26 I kept my B21 24" bucket, cut the pin on ears off and welded the B26 QA ears on and saved myself several hundred dollars.

The L45 QA hoe buckets are the same as the Kubota KX-121 mini excavator so the M59 QA hoe buckets probably match one of Kubota's larger mine excavators like the KX-161. Unfortunately as already pointed out there is not yet a standard between manufacturers for hoe QA yet.

Regards,

Lauren

The previous owner of my L39 said the two backhoe buckets I got with it were off a Kubota mini excavator. The buckets are more heavy duty than the buckets I saw on other L39/L45s when I was looking. I have also been told that the Canadian backhoe quick attach is different than the US. So if you find a bucket you like and it does not fit, welding new ears on as lhansman suggest may be the best option.

I'm pretty sure I have the same quick attach. It's a K7770 and it was originally designed for KX mini-excavators and marketed on the L48.

Thanks to all who added their info. It certainly helped me sort out whether to look for another pin on or move to QA buckets

I wanted to summarize what I learned to date since no forum has clear information about BH buckets for M59
Neil Messick of Messicks.com was very helpful. Another person, a mechanic with 25 years working on Kubotas, was also very helpful.
In summary the BH Quick Attach ( QA ) is the preferred bucket attach method because any used bucket can be modified by applying weld on ears. Pin ons, not directly useable, are very hard to modify. The used pin on pool fitting M59 is very small so new from Kubota is pretty much the only way to get buckets.
The M59 QC/ Quick Coupler is part number BT4580 but the preferred QC, from Kubota mid size/ compact excavators, is the K7870 since there is much larger supply of used excavator buckets than there are used M59 QA buckets. The K7870 is used on the KX121 compact excavator.

Not until about 2010 did the different equipment manufacturers begin move to standardized QA buckets so the pool of used buckets fitting the M59 QC is pretty small.

Hope this helps others interested in M59

Nice summary; thanks for your work. Maybe someone has some pictures of the M59 options? I'm not sure whether my own early M59 is pin-on or QA!
I do remember that when we got the M59 it had just been introduced and had some extras. One of the extras was that it came with two buckets. These are very heavy duty and have one set of ears and one pin. That kind of ear+pin mounting allows you to stab the ears from the backhoe operators position and then pick up the bucket by lifting the dipper stick. As the bucket lifts up the ears hold it in place whilet the weight of the bucket causes it to rotates into a position that makes the pin holes self-align...then I do have to get off the tractor to slide the pin home.
Real clever system. Thank you Kubota.

Looking at the picture below where I'm carrying a rock with the M59, I think this is considered the pin-on system. The removeable pin is the lowest pin which has a short chrome handle on the end of it - you can see the handle in the picture. In this pic with the bucket mounted the ears are hidden behind the common pivot for the thumb. Anyway, whichever system this is - either pin on or QA - changing buckets with it couldn't be much easier and faster. The other advantage to this ear+pin system is bucket stability. Our M59 gets used for a lot of hard digging in rock and close quarters. Nice to have a tight bucket without side slop.

Not all pin-on and QA are equal. Our big JD310 backhoe has a QA bucket attach system which requires more monkeying with than our Kubota's system. And the additional QA parts add substantially the the bucket's side slop on the 310.
thanks, rScotty
