M6800 Info Needed

I looked at a 2004 2wd M6800 w/cab yesterday. This tractor has the standard 8F/8R w/shuttle and is equipped with a Woods loader. It also has dual remote hydraulic valves. My needs are planting a few acres of food plots annually, mowing, general farm maintenance and snow removal. My questions are as follows:

- The dealer said all gear changes as well as the use of the shuttle require clutching. Is this correct?

- While I don't have any concern with it pulling a 14' disc or 4-row planter I am not sure what size plow this would pull. Anyone have experience pulling a moldboard with a 2wd M6800? This unit does have rear weights installed and I understand plow size varies according to soil type but any experience would be useful.

- How well could this unit push snow? We get the occasional 12' of wet stuff but mostly lesser amounts of dry snow. With only 2wd will I need chains?

- How good are the cabs. This unit is in pretty good shape inside. I am wondering how well they hold up over time (squeaks/rattles). Is the heat/AC adequate?

- The Kubota website shows 17gpm for the hydraulic pump under 'Specifications' but 11gpm under 'Features'. What is the actual hydraulic pump output?

- I have a medium duty 84" Woods mower. I have no concern with this tractor running the mower but how well would it handle transporting it? I would either remove the loader when I go mowing or at minimum drop the bucket.

Any other feedback on this unit would be appreciated. I would prefer 4wd but in this horsepower range it is tough to find anything used with a cab.

Hi dsb

- If the shuttle is mechanical, the clutch is needed (not needed for hydraulic)
- Depending on soil conditions, it should handle 4-5 bottoms
- Chains would help - not much side-bite in front for plowing with 2wd.
- Dunno about cabs - bet they all rattle eventually
- The total flow rating includes the power steering pump - sales gimmick
- 84" rotary will be ok with loader off - front will be light starting uphill.
Unless your land is FLAT, 4wd makes all the difference, especially with a loader. Take care, Dick B

For what you need to do I think you will be pleased with a M-6800 Kubota. We can all say four wheel drive is better in a lot of ways for different jobs but your looking at a lot more tractor then a lot of people have.

When four wheel drive is considered to a two wheel drive I figure about twenty percent difference on pulling on the average.

Thanks for the feedback. I have a call into the dealer to do some research on the tractor. My understanding is any Kubota dealer can lookup the serial number and determine the original dealer, any warranty work as well as the original tractor configuration. I will probably go look it over again and drive it around at the dealership. This would be a down size from a JD 4010 diesel. I know it's a smaller tractor but I just want to make sure it will do the basic things I need it to.

I am looking at the same tractor except it is 4wd, but I don't know if the price is right. They want 18,000 for it. It has around 700hrs. Does this sound OK.

I have a M6800.....4wd, cab and loader with about 450hrs on it....I've been very pleased with the tractor......it's not real large and not to small seems to fit the bill for my small farm....the cab keeps me cool in the Alabama summers and it's been very reliable.....Chris.

I have been told it is a 2001 with a hyd. shuttle and a kubota loader. I haven't went and looked yet because it's so far from me.

Hydraulic shuttle is considered to be a lot better than mech shuttle, so you got a lot going for you.

I've wanted a utility cab 4x4 for about 2 years now and the M6800 seems to be the model I keep coming back to if it's going to be a used tractor. Big tractor features in a reasonably small package. I really want one.
