I have been looking at the M6800 and the JD 5420. There is such a price difference between the two, I'll probably go with the M6800. However, I have three questions. The engine size on the JD5420 is 276 cu. in. and the M6800 is 202 cu. in. The PTO HP is about the same, 65hp for the JD and 62hp for the Bota at about the same RPM, 2400 for the JD and 2600 for the Bota. Does this effect engine life or power on hills, etc.?

There is huge difference in the hydraulic pump capacity, 11gpm for the Bota and 22.5 for the JD. What is does this mean as far as the operation? I'll be using a loader, a pull type bush hog and a mower. Another question, the Bota dealer has recommended a Woods loader over the Bota because of lift capacity and price. It's $300 less and comes with the quick detactment, which is an option for the Bota. Any thoughts?

The JD has wet cylinder liner and the Bota has dry. What does this mean?

I'll appreciate any comments.

I am not familiar with the JD but we have a Kubota M6800 (2001 with about 50 hours) and a Kubota M5400 (1997 with about 280 hours). These are excellent machines, BUT they are quite light. I am sure the JD and New Holland will weigh more for a comparable HP tractor. The Kubotas are smooth and quiet and are excellent for mowing, but definitely are lacking when traction is necessary for loader work or dirt work (discing, blade work, etc). We chose not to load the rear tires for various reasons; rear wheel weights (Taylor Foundry brand, 600 lbs. total) for the M6800 cost $425. We also have a Ford 4100 (46 HP) - it weights more than the M6800, but is not nearly as comfortable to ride on all day. This is not a slam on Kubota, just something you should consider before buying. Also the higher the hydraulic pump capacity, the faster cycling of the implement (front end loader, etc). Personally, I may consider a New Holland the next time I buy. I always consider WHERE each model is made - Kubotas, Japan - New Holland TS models, UK - New Holland TL models, Italy. I would not consider anything made in Mexico (NH 10 series), Korea (Kioti), India (Mahindra), China and so on, IMHO. Hope this information helps...Good Luck, Darren

Sorry, forgot about the front end loader. We went with the Bush Hog loader (M460, I think), cheaper than the Kubota ($500) with about 800 to 1000 pounds more lift capacity. The Woods loaders are excellent, you won't go wrong with any of the ones you mentioned, though......Darren

Darren, thanks for the info. Your right, the JD weighs about 1,500 more based on the model he quoted me. Is you M6800 4WD?

No, it is 2 wheel drive. Correction, the Brush Hog loader is an M446.

Darren, I went to look at a TN75 which compares to the M6800. I was impressed with the tractor and the NH loader for severval reasons. Also, the price on both tractors were about the same. The lift capacity on the NH was 2 and a half that of the M6800. The NH weighed about 1,000 pounds more. The NH deck was bigger and appeared more comfortable. The joystick on the NH was actually on the tractor on not on the loader as with the Bota. It also include a few small items not on the M6800. My NH dealer included larger front tires for the same price. He is also 40 miles closer than my Bota dealer.

Now the negatives. It is not a Kubota. I have heard about their quality, durability and resale value for years. The PTO HP on both tractors is about the same but the NH engine is smaller, is a three cylinder, and is turbocharged, and is a Fiat.

This bothers me somewhat, but I've been told by others that it is about the same engine that Ford used in the 3000s and 4000s. Those are still running.

The price on both as I said are about the same $25,500. I haven't found anyone to better the prices, not even Carver. I was actually told that I must have gotten a misquote on the NH, it should sell for $4,000 more minimun. Go figure. Anyway, the JD is out. It was just too much money over the M6800 and TN75.

Thanks for your help. Just wondering, why didn't you put fluid in those rear tires?

Oliver,

I also noticed the higher lift capacity of the NH, and I suspect that the numbers must not be measured the same. Often these numbers for the lift capacities of the NH tractors are more than the weight of the tractor itself... This seems a little fishy, and I wonder if they are really comparing apples to apples by using the same specifications for measuring this lift capacity as other manufacturers.

rf33, it must have been late in day when I posted that. It isn't the lift capacity that is 2 and a half times greater on the NH, it is the gpm of the hydraulics. The NH has two pumps, one for the PTO and another for power steering and etc. Sorry about that. They advertise the lift capacity of 3962lbs. for the 3 pt hitch on the TN75, the M6800 is 3310lbs.

When I was looking, it was at the TL90 (I think), and the tph lift capacity was listed at ~7300 lbs in their brochure, slightly more than the weight of the tractor. I was pretty skeptical of this figure, as I think that just sounds pretty high. Also not sure that this means alot, as few tph implements weigh anywhere near this amount, and if they do, I sure do not want to drive around on uneven terrain with them dangling off the back of my tractor.

After visiting our county fair and looking at a M6800, I decided to "rekindle" this thread. /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif

I also thought it was funny that the one gentlemen would not even considered some "other brands". /forums/images/graemlins/confused.gif

Truth be told, plain and simple,,, the M6800 looks like a toy compared my tractor. Axles look smaller, lift arms look small. It did however have a cab on it, no loader, Ag tires, 8speed tranny,,, and cost over $6,000 more than mine!!

My tractor has a loader, quick attach plate, R4 tires loaded, 12 speed tranny, front diff lock, rear remotes, the ability to raise and lower the hydraulics from the rear of the tractor,, (extremely nice feature), and the all important weight factor.

I also see you guys talking about 3pt hitch lift capacity. How about just shy of 5,000lbs /forums/images/graemlins/blush.gif

If you would park the M6800 beside a Kioti DK65,,, You would take the DK65 home. /forums/images/graemlins/laugh.gif
