inseeme, I don't know if I'd replace the filter or not, the water seperator is doing its job and depending on the cost of the filter I might if its one of those $6. parts but if its a $60 part I'd probably wait. I'm like some of the other recent responses, where did the water come from? If you bought it with the water in it I'd be concerned and probably be shopping for a better place to get it . If your buying Diesel Fuel buy it where the trucks buy theirs on a busy road as they will go thru more fuel and it'll be the freshest and least likely to have water in it. I like my ninethousand a lot i tried to buy the sixtyeighthundred but couldn"t find one to play with when i was looking and then my dealer started finding out more about my intended uses and reccommended a bigger machine he made me a heck of a deal on the ninethousand if i had gotten a cab i"d have destroyed it by now but the ac would have been nice i clear lots of brush with it and am in the trees a lot and a cab would have either prevented me using it for this or significantly complicated my efforts i just wear a sombrero and long sleeves and after the first month of summer i"m good until october or so
steve sorry for the spelling out and punctuation my keyboard went on the fritz a second ago i"ll have to reboot to reset it>

I'll take water in the fuel over no oil in the crank every time. At least with the water you get a second chance. By the time you notice the lack of oil you could be walking back to the house. /forums/images/graemlins/crazy.gif

Quite often, just the Fuel Injection Equipment alone on a modern diesel engine is as valuable or more valuable than an entire short block.... /forums/images/graemlins/blush.gif

Agree..

Still, take my chances with cleaning out the water, and putting in some fresh fuel and running another few thousand hours. Verses crank, mains, possible breaking the tractor in half, yuk.

But I think people learn a lesson more about checking the oil when they burn up an engine over a little water in the fuel. Maybe a miss sounds less harmfull than a rod knocking.

Either way they are both easy to prevent. /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

Water in diesel fuel probably is responsible for destroying more diesel engines than any other single cause though, simply because it happens so often.

I'm with ya!!! Your preaching to the choir. That's why I have one of these...But I don't have a clear plastic crankcase (idea?).

This one pulled about 2oz. of water right after I put it on, nothing since. My L2500 just had a regular spin on filter, couldn't see anything. I had these for over 20 years(back when I was pulling wrenches for a living), finally got a use for it. Filters readily available.
