I will be putting a down payment on a 5085e next week. :)

goodness with all this discussion on transmissions I can't believe no one has pointed out that the 5085e is only a partial sync transmission. The website does not say which gears are synced, but typically its the top 2, so 1-4 you have to stop the tractor to shift. That's awfully old school for 2014. That typical selling price difference between a partial sync and 6x2 hyd shuttle in the M7060 are $3000 there alone. Its also an old school gear shift on the floor between your legs rather than a console mount short shifter. I agree it does not look bad on paper, but the tell tail things you see on Indian built tractors do remain.

Why present this in this way? You make it sound like ALL tractors built in India are this way and they ARE NOT. I have a tractor built in India 10 years ago (Mahindra 7520) and it has the shifter off to the side, all the main transmission gears are synchronized.

Why not just say that the e series JD tractors are an economy tractor and then mention the specifics of the transmission. Just because a tractor is built in India does not indicate that it is still using "old school technology";)

It HAS to be something with the special green paint Deere uses. A close friend of mine drove to my place, from another state, stayed over and drove my tractor for a couple of hours on two days. We hooked up the rotary cutter, disc, chisel plow, box blade etc and he went to town destroying my place.

I showed him all the benefits of the transmission, selectable PTO, Power shuttle and E/H hi-lo and I really thought he understood the benefits. Nope, it was a waste of my time and diesel fuel but we did eat well.

He went home and exactly two days later bought a Deere 5085E that his dealer had on his lot with the basic transmission. I made the point ESPECIALLY since he did a lot of haying to make sure whichever tractor he got to get the best transmission he could afford.

Talked to him Wednesday and the first thing he mentioned was the gearing was bad for haying, always too fast or too slow. The air conditioner isn't working and he broke some housing by the draft control (not exactly sure what he's talking about there) when he had a bale on the rear spear and backed into something. "I just bumped it, not hard at all!"

Other than that he loves the way it looks and it's a Deere you know. It has to be the green paint.......

It is unfortunate for the people that bleed whatever color that they are fixated on. There are so many other options out there today, and they just refuse to accept it. :(

The 5085E is made in the US, it's the smaller E's that are made in India.

On top of that, I am looking at an e series brochure and it sure looks to me that the shifter is off to the right and forward of the seat about 4".

So, I guess someone is not keeping up. I always love it when people compare to non updated models.

I think gears within a range are sync'd also.

I have 2014 5085E, they are built in the US in Georgia. I haven't been on here in awhile and didnt see this thread(busy using the tractor. Have about 100 hours on it now. Only problem so far was a blend door adjustment for the AC. It has really lived up to my expectations. Pulled a 14' offset disk all summer with it, did tons of brush clearing with 84" root grapple and mowed countless acres with mx-10. Also planted about 20 acres of oats the other day. You can shift on the fly with 4 gears in each range, you have to stop to change from range A to B from B to C you can shift but its a partial synchro, shift while coasting not under load. I just stop to change ranges. In C in 4 gear I get about 24mph.
