M7060 Stalls when PTO is Turned On

ITs not a safety if it starts and operates fine with nothing attached.

Not familiar with the 7060, but does the clutch disengage the PTO. On my MX, the clutch still disconnects the PTO. Im old fashion. I still like slowly letting the clutch out to engage (softly) a big implement like a rotary cutter. So I push clutch, engage PTO....then slowly start letting out the clutch. Perhaps thats worth a shot
I don't think the foot clutch has any effect on the PTO. Worth a try though.

What I do is run the tractor at 1000rpm and click the pto engagement knob fairly quickly on off on off on off a few times while watching the pto slowly come up to speed then leave on. Basically you manually feather the electronic engagement . After a few try's it becomes easy to do and eliminates the horrendous driveline shock and engine stalling. I'd like to think kubota has the technology to fix this major flaw but so far they haven't .
^ This is exactly how I do it. Not because just turning the switch on would stall the tractor - it did not - but just to ease the shock on the components. You're talking about taking a stationary heavy mass to instantly rotating that mass at a couple hundred rpm if you just flip the switch on. The shock, at least with my M7060/rotary mower, is severe enough to make the tractor and mower jerk pretty hard. I'm surprised it didn't take out the shear pin back when I just turned the switch on without feathering.

For all of history, PTO’s on tractors were operated by a clutch controlled by the operator. Either part of the transmissions clutch or an independent clutch operated from the main clutch pedal or a separate lever that allowed the PTO clutch to be “eased” into.
Now we have switches that slam the clutch on, and often stall the tractor or snap a shear bolt.

Why?

Is it because a switch (solenoid operated clutch) can more easily be integrated with other safety interlocks and switches (seat switch, neutral switch, starting circuit, etc..)?
Cheaper?
Easier to operate?

It’s funny (in a sad way) that many suggest the solution is to quickly toggle the (digital) switch multiple times to mimic the operation of the old (analog) levers. Crazy.

What happens when you slam fuel (full throttle) at same time you slam PTO on? That is: start PTO at low rpm and simultaneously mash the throttle before it stalls.
This MIGHT help because it stalls because it doesn’t have enough fuel (power) to spin the mower when you turn on the PTO.

Thank for the responses. I will share them with my neighbor. It is not a batwing. He keeps his equipment greased.

Feather the knob rather than turn on all at once.

IF its simply a switch...with no proportional control....its either on or its not.

Not sure what kind of switch it is

It’s a round knob similar to a rheostat with a detent on the on position that you can feather if one has enough gumption.

It's a simple on/off switch powering a relay that operates the solenoid valve. The only thing I see unusual about the circuit is the relay gets it's ground through the ECU.

I also ‘feather’ the Rotary on-off PTO switch in my m7060, and at idle usually, just others have mentioned doing. With a frozen snowblower, it’s easier to see that it’s not gonna spin!
OP, Hope your neighbour sorts it out.
(I had to disable the seat buzzer switch as hitting bumps or turning around in the seat would cause me to lift just enough to set it off…. But I am a small guy)

Turn the PTO switch on with nothing attached. If the tractor stalls it is most likely the safety switch that will not allow you to leave the seat with the PTO engaged. If you search for threads on safety switch fixes there are plenty there.

He has already said with nothing attached it starts and operates fine
