Well I finally managed to get the thermostat in there. I heated the end up over the stove a bit and slowly started working the lip inside the edge. Once I had about 2/3 of it in, a quick push on the counter got it down in there. After that the top of a wine bottle worked pretty well to slide it down far enough to have space t get the hose onto the radiator. That's tomorrow's project.
Pulled the darlin into the garage this evening and changed the engine oil also. That tool some doing as the oil plug did not want to move. I ended up using a pipe wrench, floor jack to keep the pipe wrench in place and a length of pipe I had kicking around for some leverage. Eventually got it off. Oil was pretty dark and nasty. Didn't seem to have anything in it that it shouldn't so I guess that's a good sign. I'll see what it looks like at the next oil change.
