Diesel, that looks like a nice flashlight, however, I don't think it is right for me. Since it takes 3 D Cells, it will be larger and heaver than the SureFire, and as you stated, it does not work well as a spot light. Sometimes in an attic or crawl space with low headroom you need a good light that can project into a dark corner.

Also, the entryway into many attics is just a small cubby hole in the top of a closet. It is tough climbing through the hole with a large flashlight, camera, cell phone, and tool pouch hanging on your belt.

Thanks for the link though. For general purpose uses it is probably a great light.

I buy my batteries by the case as I use a flashlight for my business that I charge over $100/hr. My light is on for over 8 hrs/day and sometimes longer. I used to use a Mag-Lite 3 D cell as it had the lasting power, focused into a spot, and had a spare bulb in the end. This worked well for years until I was given a Pelican 3 C LED light!

WOW! I now use this light all the time as it lasts longer than the 3 D cells and with LED's you don't have to worry about bulbs blowing. It is much brighter than the Mag-Lite. It has a white light that I find I can see better than the Yellow incandescent bulbs.

One drawback to the LED's is that when the batteries are drained......the light goes from full brilliance to nothing in about 1 minute giving you no warning.

I put an LED bulb in the Mag-Lite 3 D cell and it is almost as bright as the Pelican. The $20 for the LED is a lot, but without a light, I can't work so I have to pay the price for a back-up.

Hmm, I have alway's noticed the opposite. When my LED light's batteries start to die the light last for several hours if not day's longer before it is completly dead. In fact when the 123 Lithium batteries start to die in my Snap-On/Blue Point flashlight with a regular bulb I take them out and put them in my Inova LED flashlight and get a couple of more weeks out of them.

This flashlight is hands down the best one I've ever owned. It's great for hunting, when you're field dressing an animal after dark. I also use it when working in the attic and the crawl space. Absolute life saver that allows hands free working. On LED mode, it'll last for hours and hours. If you need a beam, the xenon bulb works great.

I like the compactness of it, compared to the larger battery pack models, I can easily stick it in a pocket.

I guess those head mounted lights have some use, a nice look when worn with a lab coat and exam gloves :~)
