Has any one installed a magnet in their drain plugs? I'm coming up on 50 hours and will be changing all fluids. I found some little round rod magnets from the Chalkly cup source and am considering drilling a little hole partway in the drain plug and epoxy/ staking these in the plug.

Any reason why not to do this?

Also, lowest cost source of Kubota filters?

My Toyota pickup has magnets in all the drain plugs, engine, transmission, transfer, and front and rear differentials. The only thing I would be concerned with is the magnet coming off and possibly jamming up in the moving parts.

If you worry that the drain plug magnet might get pulled into the crank case or strike the crank shaft you might try a strong magnet on your engine and or transmission / hydraulic oil filter casings.

I got the idea from my wifes Saturn which came with a filter magnet for the spin on transmission filter.

Of course I have no idea if it does any good. But, I doubt it does any harm.

If you decide to purchase an after-market oil plug with a magnet, check the quality. I purchased magnetic plugs from NAPA for use with my car and pickup and the threads were so poorly cut that I wound up dressing the threads with files before using them so that they didn't distort the threads in the oil pans.
