Comparison Mahindra 1538 or MF 1742

Here. The problem is the way the pedal is, your foot slides forward and ends up under the brakes. With my boots, there is not enough room between the break pedal and the rocker to allow the rocker to return to neutral and so you just keep moving forward until you slide your foot backwards, not pick it up, but slide it back off of the rocker.

I suppose that you would get use to it, why should you have to? Extremely poor positioning IMO.

Yeah I agree. They shouldn't have ever changed the design unless they were going to a 2 pedal design. I got used to the 3316 pedal in short order. This setup is worse than the e series design on the MF. Looked over the MF 17 series at the dealer today...why on earth would they put the loader block hydraulic block near the step on the tractor? The more I dig into this the less I like either tractor.

I think that most of the tractors are built to a price point, so there are problems of some sort with every one. Unfortunately most likely neither the bean counters or the engineers are actual tractor users, so we get what we get. End up picking the lesser of the faults that happen to affect us the least amount.

Good luck with your search and your final decision. ;)

Anybody have a picture of the rocker pedal on the 1538? None on the dealer lot.

Trust me you don't want it. I drove one and about 100' later it was enough for me to decide that it was a really stupid design. Not even one lap around the the lot and I was shopping for a gear. A two pedal setup might have made a difference but so far I like the shuttle for what I do.

Lol, does anyone, like anything, from any manufacturer. JK I like my treadle, I'm easy enough to please, but expect quality. Nothing's perfect.

All this talk about the rocker peddle. I have close to 100 hrs on my 1533 and have never had trouble. And I wear a size 13 boot. I too thought there might be some trouble with my size 13. But as of yet I have had no problems at all. The only trouble I do have is when I turn around to check behind me, I most always turn on my lights or the turn signal with my knee. Besides that I'm good.

I have driven a 1533HST 4 separate times for 2 miles down a paved road. Every single time when it comes time to make a stop, my foot has slid forward on the pedal and the thickness of my boot comes up under the brakes and will not allow the treadle to make a full release.

So most likely I would get use to sliding my foot back instead of just picking it up, but if things were designed differently, such as how the earlier models were, there would be no getting use to anything.

But again, this is just me. No different than back before I bought what I bought, (Mahindra 3215HST), I looked at Kioti's and their treadle was a deal breaker for me.

I agree, nothings perfect, but why purchase something that going in you are thinking("I"ll get use to it") when you don't really have to, just get something different.

Lots of different choices out there. ;)

The 2538 has the side by side pedals.. I actually like the new rocker style on the 1500series but I prefer shuttle tractors over HST. As far as your question I own a 1540 MF.. Iseki does a bang up job with the tractors they build for MF. The front axles arnt the best and my loader has a nice lean to it but other its not hard to live with.. other than that the tractor is very reliable. Has 413 hours so not much for its age. it was second hand also.. Now... the biggest challenge for me to choose MF while shoppin new tractors would be dealing with Agco... its a huge massive cluster of brands and models and it can drive you a bit crazy when getting parts. Im sure youll be happy with either but my money would be on the 1538
