Mahindra 1626
Hey All,

I have a 1626 under 100 hours and recently ran into an issue I can't seem to troubleshoot.

7 days ago I started the tractor under some pretty cold temps (~5 degrees F) and it was a slight struggle but she came to life and ran fine there after.

3 days ago I attempted to start her up and everything was normal, appropriate dashlights, glow plug, fuel pump running but when I turn it over it cranks but won't run.

Checked battery and even trickle charged overnight for good measure to rule it out. Not the issue. Checked fuel lines to and from filter. All have very liquid fuel running (no viscosity). Assuming it's something I can't see like frozen water somewhere (its well below freezing at night, tractor is outside) I purchased Diesel 911 and let it sit for a few hours then tried to run it. Still no luck.

Seems to be in perfectly good condition minus the whole not running bit. What am I missing?

Have you checked to see if the glow plugs are functioning? I don't mean just the indicator lights, I mean whether they're actually getting power and heating.

there is a connector on the glow plug rail, its a female spade connector, it might be melted, move it around and see if that makes it work.

my max needs glow plugs unless its warm

if that fixes it, you might need to cut it off and put a ring terminal

Connector looks to be in really good shape.

Silly question but to see if their getting power/heating are you talking about just warm to the touch or using voltage meter while glow plug dash light is on?

voltmeter would work, positive side on the female spade. negative to ground. should be about battery voltage, while the glow light is on.

OK so I checked all 3. First was definitely getting current and everything seemed to be secured but I wasn't getting current at down the rod that joins all three plugs. So I loosened and reseated the terminal to the first plug and now have current down the line.

Unfortunately that didn't seem to do the trick in getting her to start but maybe making progress. Would all 3 being lit be enough now or do I need to find a way to re-thaw potentially gelled diesel with some more Diesel 911?

is there a reason to believe its gelled? if you pull the filter off and push up on the holder, does fuel pour out or no?

glow plugs do nothing for gelled fuel, they simply heat the chamber to allow the machine to start easier.

Well I was thinking less about gelled and more about frozen water from condensate that has now built up over time.

To answer your question, I do get fuel pouring out from the filter so no gelling I guess.

I'm at a loss here for what may be the issue

turn the key to the on position. and leave it there for about a minute or 2, there is a priming function on mahindra. do not try to start it.

cycle the glow light 3 times, then try. if still nothing your gonna have to start cracking lines and see. you should be getting puffs of something.

can also throw an amp meter inline on the glow plug wire to see if its pulling current as well.
