Backhoe Mahindra 1710a backhoe settles overnight?

Just bought 1710a for my 1815hst. Noticed that bucket, main lift cylinder is settling,seeps down overnight. In fact it starts to settle within 1 hr. No external leaks. Called dealer whom i bought from and was told that they all did this. I dont have a video phone so i dont know how he saw STUPID tatooed on my forehead.....Cant imagine that they All do this. If that was true I would assume my front end loader would settle, it doesnt. I have a car lift, chinese it doesnt settle overnight. Main boom cylinder jerky at start of decent,first foot of stroke, must ever so slightly actuate controll lever to modulate.

My family and I have owned three different tractor-mounted backhoes at various times. They all relaxed after a time.

I don't know that he saw anything on said forhead.
But he was rite about the BH.

My 2615 with 3710 BH relaxes, but only very slightly...and it takes a few days. After even a few weeks the BH bucket and backhoe support feet will only drop down a few inches, never to the ground. I always drop the FEL to the ground when I park, so I don't know if that relaxes. Sounds like you may have a slight leak in a fitting or valve somewhere.

I can't remember exactly, but a couple of years ago I found a chart by John Deere that told exceptable relax rate. About an inch an hour seems to be what I remember was an exceptable relax rate. I saved that chart, but I can't remember where I put it, and haven't found time today to look for it.

My BH has a mechanical lock. I think the purpose is to prevent anyone from noticing how fast it settles.

Your dealer is right about the cylinder leakdown and hopefully wrong about the tatoo, it probably says "I'm still learning".

Some examples: JD 47 backhoe boom cylinder max allowable travel 15mm/minute (3 feet an hour for the non-metric types). Stabilizer cylinder. 8mm/minute. Ameriquip shows the boom at 0.36"/minute and the stabilizers at 0.23"/minute. These are max numbers, so anything above these numbers is a problem, and in theory, below is not. I don't have the Mahindra KMW numbers handy, but they should be in the range we see above.

Here is the odd thing. Some loaders and backhoes will stay up for days it seems, yet the standards allow most everything to settle to the ground within a half hour or so and be OK. I never quite figured that out, but I have learned that if you are traveling with a backhoe, put in the travel pin or the travel latch. If you shut off your machine, rest the implements on the ground.

I will say that the small Mahindra backhoes are almost too responsive until you get used to them. Just a little lever and they are moving. It takes time, but it is nice once you are real familiar with the controls.

I've been reading about 3 point hydraulic top links. Some of them come with check valves to keep them from moving. I also read that some loaders if not all have check systems for safety. It might be the case that they don't put check systems in backhoes since they are to be locked in place for transport or when not in use. I don't suppose that they are just leaking, I suppose it is just a matter of the complexity of the hydraulic circuits and collective lack of resistance or play from all the different ways hyd fluid can get to a lower pressure area.

I think my backhoe settles too if that helps. I lock it in place when I am done. I have kids running around. I don't leave loaders up, forks up, anything that has the potential to settle.

Would you be able to say which tractors have the check systems that you are talking about? (DPOCV I am assuming) I am fairly sure that none of the scut, cut or utility tractors that are talked about on this forum have any safety check valves on their FEL. I'm not sure if even the industrial TLB have them, I know that my Mahindras and our Case 580E doesn't.
