Mahindra 2655 50 hour maintenance

Thanks TractorNH, and I do agree with you. It is an unknown, as to the Mahindra specs in their engine oil filter. The new, shorter filter has Mahle on it also, so I called Mahle USA. They said they can't give out any info for the filter because of copyrights with Mahindra. He said he couldn't even find specs on it, top secret I guess. Proprietary like you said. Did you read the NAPA Gold specs info? I joined another forum, all about oil and oil filters. I ran a post about this topic. Many replied and gave me reasons it would be OK to use. The NAPA filter 1324 is used on Kioti diesels and Branson diesels. This doesn't mean the 1324 filter is good to use on a Mahindra 2555 diesel, but how much difference could there be between these engines when it comes to the engine oil system? When I called the Texas Mahindra facility, I talked with the tech department and I asked about the steering seal leak at the PSU and about the engine oil filter crossover. He said there wasn't anything out there that crossed over because Mahindra had copyrights to the filters. He also said, I could find one if I looked. That guy no longer works there.

I’d be especially cautious given there was a specific change to the filter for the 2555, 2565, 2655, and 2665 tractors but it said the previous filter was okay to use on some other models. Leads me to believe there is a very specific reason for the different filter and not knowing why could be risky.

I will TractorNH. The last this I want to do it mess up the engine over an oil filter. As far as the new filter goes, my local dealer parts guy said it has a better type of filter element in it, over the old filter. Maybe the old filters didn't filter the finer particles like Mahindra wanted?

The manual that came with my 2655 says Transmission and front axle Hyd. fluid to be changed at 50 hrs. I want to make sure my warranty is honored just in case!

As a 2655 owner myself, one tip I will give you is this. Check the fluid levels before you drain them and after you drain the fluids measure how much came out before you refill them. That should give you a good guide as to how much to actually add. Example, I drained my engine oil and filter and put the waste oil into a couple empty oil containers. What came out was only about 7 quarts but the manual says it takes 2.25 gallons or 9 quarts. I ended up adding back about 7.5 quarts and it was right where it should be on the dipstick. If I went by the manual I would have had to drain some oil since it would have been overfull.

Keep in mind that you will need a large container for the HST/Trans/Hydraulic fluid since the capacity is 9.5 gallons (though some of that remains in the tractor). Otherwise you will need to drain some, put the plug back in, empty the container, and repeat until you have it all drained.

I just started a 50 hours service on the work tractor 2665 shuttle. I saw your write up before but didn’t read it completely before starting. I wish I did as I called our dealer to check on the oil filter because of the difference in length. I just wished I pulled my phone out and referred to your write up instead of the owners manual. I did find that on mine a 22mm was a better fit than a 7/8. The 7/8 started to round my left oil plug a bit. I gently tapped on the 22 (because the 7/8 rounded it a bit on me) and it was a much better fit. I used the unrounded right plug to verify the good fit. I was surprised on how tight everything was also. I had to use a pipe on my wrenches just to get the oil drains lose. I have to do my transmission and front axel tomorrow. I would agree on the radiator screens. I will probably blow them off in place mostly as putting them back in is a huge pain with wire loom in the way too much to get them back in. I will say I think the screen design is terrible. Too many things are in the way to make them easy to clean. I do like the tractor a lot. The hood design so far is my only other issue. It doesn’t seem to latch in place very well when opened and with the loader on it isn’t easy to get latched open by yourself when you are short. My only question is has anyone else had problems with the loader zerks? We had 1 missing and two broke today at 50 hours? They were easy to change just seems weird because the are all recessed into the arms. Oh one other pain is seeing through the mahindra branded forks but I knew that going into things since I have a set for my max. So far the boss has been impressed with the power of the tractor and he is more versed in equipment than I am.

A tip for you when you go to do your front axle. The plugs on my 2655 are 1/2 inch square head and the vent plugs are near impossible to get to without taking a wheel off. Instead of a wrench, use a 1/2" socket extension backwards so the female end of the extension goes over the head of the plug. Then put an adjustable on the male end of the extension. The plugs are softer steel and will round off easy if you try to use a regular wrench but you won't round off the square end of an extension.
