Mahindra 3525 Electric gauges Not working, other maintanence questions

you didn't say if the tractor was stored inside or outside before/after you bought it.

my 3016 manual has a section in it for care and cleaning. It has a diagram of safe to wash zones and not safe to wash zones. It says do not spray water on the dash area.

If that's so, how can anyone be expected to keep the tractor outdoors in the rain? I don't, and wouldn't ever, it's dry in a barn but it seems like many people do. I am concerned about using it in the rain or wet rainy snow while plowing.

Also the tractors are kept outside at the dealerships. Seems like that might be a problem.

Do you think your problem was water related?

From I what understand from the dealership, the prior owner left it outside the entire time he owned it. When I changed the air filter at 417 hours, it looked like it had a 2007 date stamp on it and hadn't been cleaned in a long time. The tractor wasn't beat up, but it wasn't take care of very well. Why anybody would spend that kind of money on a tractor and leave it outside in the weather beats me.

And the sealing of the instrument panel strikes me as perhaps sealed well enough against dust, but not very well sealed against water, IMO.

I don't understand anyone leaving something so expensive out in the weather either.

Just like many people have a garage for their car/truck, but fill the garage with their lawn mower and trash barrels, leaving their $40,000 vehicle outside.

Never did understand it.

Would a silicone type spray work ok? I assume that "break free"oil is like Kroil or PB Blaster. Man this would be a great fix for me.

I'm not sure if silicone spray would be best. You need something that will unstick what's the shaft from the housing or whatever it is that gets bound up by corrosion in these gauges.

The problem to me is that the gauges are open and the materials aren't what you'd see in a sealed marine gauge used outdoors on a boat, IMO.

You can't tell it from this photo, but the gauge is completely open between the panel and the gauge assembly. You can see the corrosion on the outside of it.
