Howdy all, I'm about to purchase my first tractor. I'm leaning toward either a used 2002 4500-2WD w/FEL or a used 2002 4110 w/FEL. I'm leaning more toward the 4110 because of the lower weight of the tractor w/ FEL, so I can tow it on my 7000# capacity lowboy trailer. My main use will be shredding my 15 acres and I'll use the FEL to move things and spread gravel on my road from time to time. The used 4500 is at a dealer right now and I'm friends with the guy who traded it in on a new 5500-4WD. He needed the 4WD and suggested I look only at 4WD if I plan to use a FEL. The 2002 4110 w/ FEL and only 75 hours is for sale locally by an individual and I'm going to look at it tomorrow. Is there a "bluebook" for used tractors to give me an idea of a reasonable price to pay for a year 2002 4110 w/ FEL and only 75 hours? Another friend of mine sold his 2002 4110 w/ FEL and 500 hours last summer for $11K. The one I am going to look at tomorrow has an asking price of $14K. It has less hours, 75, than the one that sold 6 months ago for $11K with 500 hours, but is that really worth $3K? I don't think so. What do you think a reasonable price is to pay for a used 2002 4110 with FEL and only 75 hours?

$14K sounds like a good deal on a 75 hour tractor to me. I paid $19350 for my 4110 last May. It just turned over 50 hours last week. Age in years on a tractor isn't really as important as hours. You may be able to use the $11K price to get the owner down on his price some.

The 4110 is pretty hefty for a CUT, weighing in at around 4K plus the FEL. It is also physically larger than most other CUTs in the 40hp range. You will really like the 4110 for the uses you have outlined. It is nimble enough, yet powerful enough to do those jobs with ease. The 4110 eats up the mowing jobs, I've rarely seen the 4110 flinch even when mowing some pretty tough brush. The FEL on the Mahindra has a heftier feel, and often a bigger bucket (6 ft vs 5ft) than some other brands of comparable size. I use mine to feed round bales of hay to our horses. I haven't been using a rear weight, but do have loaded tires, and the FEL handles the round bales like a champ. It sloshes through a section of muddy path that has ruts, mud and water about 16" deep in high range first gear without grunting.

What has really impressed me about my 4110 of late is that it appears to have increased power as it gets broken in.

I've never used a 2WD tractor with a front end loader, but the 4110 with the 4WD engaged is easy to handle using the FEL, even with a load. It steers as well or better than most other tractors I have used w/o the FEL and a heavy bale of hay on it.

You may also want to consider going new instead of used. I don't know where you are in Texas, but with a Mahindra assembly plant in that state some of the dealers down there have some fantastic prices, as freight costs are much lower. Plus, you can get some outstanding interest rates. I set mine up on 60 months simply because the 3.99% rate made it tough to turn down. Here's a link: Mahindra financing specials

i have a 4500 2wd and love it but it sounds like the 4110 is the one for you. i put mine on a 7000# trailer "i have fel also" and all 4 tires looked flat, it was a joke, i wasnt about to move my new tractor on that. i dont know how much it weighs with the fel but its alot.

Thanks for the replies. I have a large dealer to work with for new and some used tractors if I choose to do so. Won't I have to pay sales tax of 8% or thereabouts if I purchase new or used from him? He advertises that he sells more Mahindras than anyone in the US. Speaking of tax, is there a tax/title/license fee to pay when transferring ownership of a tractor? I was told the 4500-2WD with FEL weighs about 6,250 pounds. Add to that the weight of the trailer, about 1,000 pounds (?), and you're over the limit of a 7000 pound lowboy by 250 pounds. I'll probably also want to travel my tractor with the shredder, which adds another 900 pounds, which gets the total weight up to 8,150 pounds. Oh, and the 4500 already has 400 pounds of additional wheel weights attached, for a total of 8,550 pounds. I believe this same setup with a 4110 without wheel weights will weigh-in at around 6,870 pounds, which is safe for my 7,000 pound lowboy trailer. I don't have any plans to travel the tractor, but I like knowing I can if I ever need to. 7,000 pounds is also the maximum my 4X4 Ford Expedition with the larger V8 will tow. The 4110 I'm going to look at today has no attachments with it. So I'm thinking of offering $12K for the tractor and then spend another $2k on the shredder, box blade, and post hole digger from my local Mahindra dealer.

Remember that many trailers are rated not for capacity, but for GVWR. Most 7k trailers weigh around 2k, leaving you only 5k capacity. If you can save a couple thousand on a 75 hour machine, it's a good deal. It sounds like it is about $5k under new so it would be a very good deal.

Where in Texas are you?

My neighbor has a 4005 2wd and it's a hoss. I've done some brushhogging with it and a 6' International hog and it never misses a beat. He only has around 300 hours on it but has never had a problem.

I'm 100 miles West of San Antonio in the middle of nowhere. The town I live in is pop. 78 and the nearest traffic light is more than 30 miles away. I missed out on the purchase of the 4110. I called the seller while on the road to his house and gave him my ETA. I arrived 1 hour later and was told that someone else had just left who had purchased the 4110. The sales price was $13,800. I probably would have offered more, but the seller said it was a done deal. It was in mint condition too. The tires still had the little rubber strands sticking off of them. This was truly my loss on this one. It was a steal compared to paying full price for a new one.

Today, I attended the San Antonio Stock Show and Rodeo and visited with tractor sales people representing Mahindra, JD, New Holland, and Kubota, to discuss what they had to sell in the way of 30-40hp tractors with FEL and 4WD. The New Holland is light weight if the sales guy is correct on his figures. The New Holland brochure I was given for the Boomer Series tractors doesn't even show the weight of the tractor. They must be embarrassed. It must contain a lot of plastic parts. The Kubota dealer took aim at comparing his Grand L30 to the JD tractor and assured me that his tractor was much higher quality than the JD tractor with a Yanmar engine. He even went out of his way to make it a point that the Yanmar engine is made in Japan. That kind of information doesn't bother me a bit (The Kubota engine is also made in Japan!!!). I just want a tractor that will do what is stated in the brochures. How much it will lift, how large a shredder it can pull, etc. I'm sure the JD tractor with Yanmar engine is a quality tractor or else JD wouldn't be selling it. At the JD booth, I was quite surprised to find a JD tractor priced about the same as a Mahindra. I've always thought JD tractors were much higher priced because of their famous JD name. I was told I could purchase a JD 990 4WD with FEL for just under $20,000. The downside of the 990 is that it has a permanent ROPS that doesn't fold down. That's unacceptable for the low trees I'll be shredding under. Anyway, on to the Mahindra dealer who by far had the largest display area of the tractor dealers present at the Show. I got to sit on a 4110 and I was a bit dissapointed in the height of the seat. The seat is so low that my knees were higher than my hips while sitting in the seat. This makes it difficult to lift my toes high enough to push on the brakes and clutch. I asked the sales person about it and was assured that the seat won't raise in height. "This is a compact tractor" she told me. Bummer. She told me about the 4530 and had me sit in a 7520 and told me the 4530 has approximately the same seating as the 7520. It was a couple of inches higher than the 4110 and fit me much better. They didn't have a 4530 on display at the Show. I received a price sheet for all the Mahindra tractors and was surprised to find the 4530 is only $500 more than the 4110 (cash price). By the way, only the Mahindra booth passed out a price sheet. The other 3 dealers had to calculate their numbers and give me an approximate price. Kudos to the Mahindra dealer. The 4530 seems like a much larger tractor that weighs about 1,750 pounds more than the 4110. I was surprised to find in the brochures for the 4110 and 4530 that the 4110 is actually longer than the 4530 by 5", and the 4110 is considered the compact tractor. I wonder how they define "compact". Anyway, if I wind up paying for a "new" tractor from a dealer, I'll probably want the larger 4530 for only $500 more. It just seems like I'll be getting more tractor for my money. The downside to the 4530 is that I'll have to buy a new trailer to carry it and since the 4530 is so new, I'm sure I won't find a used one for sale for years to come.

I'm still looking for a good deal on a good, used tractor. Mahindra is still my first choice for my purchase.

I make brackets that lift the seat on the 3510/4110 up 2 inches. I know what you mean about it being low and I offer to raise the seat when I make a sale. Some people the seat is just fine the way it is, and others like you and me need it raised. So it can be done.
The 4530 tractor would make you a good rugged tractor and it would walk all over the other tractors you looked at. and I mean literally. Good luck tractor shopping.

The 4110 has wet brakes, Mahindra went with dry brakes on the 4530. The 4110 is a great tractor. I have 75 hours on mine. I can handle anything I throw at it!
