mboulais, we have about 75 acres on the farm, most of which is hilly, to downright steep; thus my desire for the MFWD. Most of the tillage type of work would just be for gardening type stuff, no big jobs. The heaviest work would be handling round bails that I feed to our horses.
The horses are my primary farming endeavor.
I really pay attention to the lift capacities as it tells a lot about the strength of the hydraulics system. I will be using a 6 foot bush hog, 6 foot disk, a fertilizer spreader with about an 800 lb capacity, etc. These are well within the limits of most CUTs of the 40 hp size; but the Mahindra 4110's specs put them well within the limits. I also will be using a bail spear on the back, as well as using the loader spear.
Currently I am using my father-in-law's 4000 Ford for these tasks, but it is not as nimble as the MFWDs on the hills for bush hogging. It has no loader for helping to clean out the barns, and it really is just about too big for those chores if it did have a loader attached. Because of the size factor in working in the barn hallways the larger CUTs are the smallest sized utilities are mainly what I am looking at. Right now the muffler needs to be taken out to push out the shed where I feed my horses in the pasture their grain. The makes for a lot of diesel fumes, and I want to avoid doing that in the future.
I plan to put up new fence all the way around the farm next summer, so the independent PTO is going to be handy for use with a PHD, and something I consider a must over the transmission driven PTOs on some of the CUTs.
There is a NH square bailer that is used on the farm for hay, but the Ford 4000 is here for that. The tractor I get may be used for raking and mowing hay with a sickle bar mower. The 4110 should be well up to these tasks as there have been much smaller tractors used for those tasks in the past in this area, like an Allis Chalmers B, Farmall Super A, etc. It doesn't take a lot of hp or size to rake hay or mow with the sickle bar mowing machines.
Price will play a big role in my ultimate decision. There is a Kioti dealer about 2 hours away that has a price of $19,400 on their DK45 w/FEL. I am hoping that more local dealers will be able to top the prices on the Mahindras. I really want to stay under that $20,000 mark. There have been some dealers crop up locally who sell the McCormicks, but I have yet to get a price on them, but would definitely consider them as the fit and finish look pretty good.
