Mahindra 4500 PTO coming engaged

I have a 4500 with 450 hours on it. When using the PTO, it occasionally disengages. To re-engage, you have to clutch in ALL the way instead of just being able to clutch in a small amount.
Anyone have any suggestions?

Is this tractor a 2 WD?

Yes, it is a 42hp 2wd without a FEL

Your tractor has a 2 stage clutch, and the pto portion of it, is not disenguaged until the pedal is pushed all the way down. I believe the clutch is operating properly.

Bout to start bush hogging again and I've still got the problem. Was told the lever may be bent which is keeping the PTO from engaging. Any suggestions!

I've got the same tractor. No problems with it disengaging but I do have to slide the lever back and forth til it finds it's happy spot and will crank. Good luck.

Yes it does grind, even when clutching it ALL the way. Sometimes I can get it to not grind if I step on the clutch hard.
