I am looking to buy my first tractor, a Mahindra 4500. Can anyone tell me about the pros and cons of the constant running PTO (CRPTO). Also, I would like to hear from anyone who owns a 4500 and if they have had any problems with it.
Thanks /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif

I have the 4500 4WD with independant PTO, which turns all the time it is engaged regardless of the foot clutch position, I think that is the same thing you describe. The 2WD model has what is called a live PTO, two stages on the foot clutch. I specifically wanted the independant PTO for running my square baler, if you stop it while its full of hay, you have to dig all the hay out of the feed area and bale chamber entrance to get it spinning again. So if I have to stop the tractor while baling I can mash the clutch pedal down without worrying about. Of course that could be less than an advantage when running a brush hog. At any rate I have 70 hours on the tractor and it has performed flawlessly. Chet

Thanks for the info Chet. The 4500 I am looking at is a 2WD and on the mahindra web site on the spec sheet for this tractor it says that the pto is a crpto(constant running). I didn't know if that was the same as a independent pto or not.

My dad has a 4500 2wd and the PTO can be controlled with the clutch, same as my 6000 2wd. Push in the clutch and it stops power to the PTO.

He's had his for about 1.5 years and is very pleased with it.
