I own a 2011 Mahindra 5010 and have had good service until this past weekend. I had been bush hogging in the afternoon and turned the tractor off. When I went back to crank it to move to the shed, it started just fine, but would not move. Everything else seems to be working as it is supposed to. It seems to go from 2wd to 4wd and back as it should and when I change the gears it acts like it wants to go, but doesn't. Has anyone got suggestions? This one has me stumped. Rich

Is it a gear drive or HST?

How about range selector?

Do hydraulics function?

Does engine change sound when it tries to go?

What do you mean by it " acts like it wants to go"? Does the tractor inch forward? Inch backward in reverse? Budge at all? Does it change speed or sound? If you were to try to tow it, will it roll? It lists a single plate dry clutch for your tractor, do you ride the clutch at all? Even rest your foot on it while using it?

When I called the dealership, I was told that it could be the clutch. I found that if I put in low, I could inch it forward and reverse, but that is the only way I could get it to move. I managed to get it on my trailer to take it to the dealership, but I'm just irritated because it only has 160 hrs on it. I don't put my foot on the clutch at all because they stressed that when I purchased it. Someone told me today that he had been told that Mahindra had been having problems with their clutches. Has anyone else heard this?

I'd imagine since most people like to vent about problems, this being the largest forum of this type on the web, there'd be other instances showing up if there was much of a widespread problem. Before taking what was said to heart, I'd identify this someone's someone that said there was an ongoing clutch issue and determine if they have an actual inside line on Mahindra's warranty service details or if they're just typical "good old boys" "shooting the breeze"... It may just be an instance of a fella that knew of a couple Mahindras that had clutch service done and assumed there is an issue when perhaps the others he knows of were all high hours and/or poor operators and he just didn't have all the details. Many details get lost "in the grapevine" when someone says that someone said... There are a few Mahindra dealers that are members here, perhaps one of them could chime in on this with first hand knowledge such as how many 5010s they've sold versus how many have needed service...

I'd also think at 160 hours, you would have had a hard time ruining the clutch even if that was your goal... How many hours did it have when you took possession? Possible someone broke something on the lot in a test (read that as "doing dumb things on pavement") and with you babying it, it took this long to "let go"?

I'd bet once they get into it they find something either didn't go together properly at assembly or some part wasn't quite up to par. Either way I think they should get you fixed up fast. Let us know what they find too.

Best of luck!

When a clutch wears out, it is a slow gradual thing, not a situation where it works one minute and not the next.

Good point. It could be just the linkage adjustment I mentioned leading to the clutch slipping. The problem could have just started. I wouldn't get down on the tractor, clutches are simple.

Sounds like the transmission range selector is in neutral.

I, too, have a 5010-gear Cab that is having some clutch problems. The tractor is 2 years old and started having problems a couple of months ago. I had the same problem, tractor would start, but wouldn't go. Had the dealer pick it up, and after a long while, he called and said that he was able to adjust the clutch so that it would engage. He told me that I must be riding the clutch to make the clutch wear out so quick. I failed to mention that the tractor only had 86 hours on it. I told him, that even if I had rode the clutch, I would have had to truly abuse the tractor for it to wear out so quick. He didn't charge me anything, except the hauling to and from, and everything was good, until last Sunday. I had been on the tractor about 8 hours (it now has 98 hours on it)and had the last roll of hay in the barn, when something happened to the clutch. It started engaging about 1-1/2" from the floor, instead of near the top. This lasted about 2 minutes and then the clutch would not disengage at all. The dealer is scheduled to pick up the tractor tomorrow morning. I have a bad feeling that I'm in for a fight, but we'll see. I'll keep you updated regarding the clutch.

Well both of yours are 5010s, you could have an issue. As pointed out above, clutches go slowly. Your message says adjustment, so linkage. Just doesn't make sense it would have enough normal wear to need adjusting.

Could be a trend. I have an online friend with a 4110 and he told me to stay away from the 10 series.
