Mahindra Battery Corrosion

I had serious corrosion around the positive post on my 2815 from the time it was new. Several years ago I replaced the battery with a sealed maintenance free type and that fixed it.

Some of the Exide batteries were gassing out around the positive post. That causes way more than normal corrosion on the post. We have warrantied a few of these before they ever left our lot. A little corrosion and keeping cables clean is part of owning a tractor, but a fuzzy bunch of green stuff on a tractor just a few months old is not normal. These are pretty cheap batteries. I like the idea of going to an Optima or similar.

Bottom line is that it is not the tractor but it is the battery.

Mahindra Max 28 XL hst is just over a year old - in the first months of operation there appeared significant corrosion at the positive post. And yesterday during routine maintenance, I was aghast at the spread of the corrosion from the post to the tie down "j" bolts. This is unacceptable. What could be causing the phenomenon in an otherwise very clean tractor?

High ambient temperatures and too high charging voltage?
