mahindra or kubota

I didn't aim to sound "anti-Mahindra". Actually a small implement dealer who is a friend of mine was getting a Mahindra franchise until some little dealer within 60 miles of him found out and got Mahindra to stop his franchise. This seems like BS to me! The existing Mahindra dealer sells about 6 a year and was 58 miles away!!

I basically won't buy from a dealer I don't know or who doesn't have a good reputation. I've looked up Mahindra quite a bit, and that is why I knew their history. On another thread I mentioned that I was shocked to learn that Mahindra actually built most of our WWII Willy's Jeeps. No doubt a good company, but I was able to buy my current tractor, a Kubota L5030HSTC, for less than this tiny dealer quoted me for a similar Mahindra. I hate to sound rude, but I hope he gets his franchise pulled, or at least the guy I know gets them.

Kubota has been around for longer than Mahindra, thats a fact. Mahindra is not exactly a newcomer in the game. In the US they are apparently #4, they are #1 in their home market beating Kub and Deere combined in the near east. Read the company prospectus, its online. I did before I bought.

I am with FW on this one though. I wanted Greene except the dealer likes them on the lot so much that he didnt want to sell them. /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif So I looked at Kubota (and others). Mahindra, dollar for dollar, feature for feature, hp to hp, lb for lb, beat the Kubota, Farmtrac, AGCO, and NH. Massey is under represented around here. Your milage may vary.

The Kubota (L2800)I looked at is a VERY nice machine and would have done everything that I wanted. The larger Mahindra (3510) for about the same money (+500) is doing everything better with 12x12 SS, standard rear remote, more hp, and a heck of a lot more weight.

If you want the Kub, get it. You wont go wrong. If you need more for the funds, dont be afraid of the Mahindra its a animal.

I would also consider resale value incase you ever want to upgrade or your needs change. I had a great little AGCO tractor but when I went to sell it: the resale value was terrible around here. If it had been one of the big 3 I would have easily gotten another $3-4 grand out of it.

Gened14, if you had had one of the big 3 instead of your AGCO, would not one of the big 3 have cost you 3-4k more than your AGCO? So, when you sold for 3-4k less, were you really out any more money? I don't know, just asking.

Back when I was shopping, Agco (around here) was priced about the same as Kubota.
A good dealer makes a huge difference. Just wait until you really need help. But, of course, by then it's too late to change your mind. /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

( Let's see, Kubota Corporation was formed in Osaka Japan in 1890 for their ag business. Mahindra & Mahindra formed after India's independence in 1947, but did not produce their first tractor (the B-275) until 1962. Not that it really matters, but that's not close. )

From looking at a Kubota website you can close that gap some. It states that they were formed in 1890, but that was when they were the mfg of of cast-iron water supply pipelines. Not quite sure when they made their "first tractor", but it says that they made there "first" first compact kerosene engines for agricultural use in 1920, and in 1930 Kubota started producing diesel engines.

Was unable to find exactly when they acutally started making tractors though. Anyone know for sure? Kubota doesn't seem to tell this info on there website. Would be kind of neat to have a timeline for all the different companys.

At the time the AGCO was just a little more than Kubota, but since I am an Allis Chalmers collector and a huge fan I was willing to pay a little more. I learned a painful lesson.
