Maibox baseball problem and worse

I'm reading this thread and feeling guilty. About 40 years ago I went through this phase where we thought it was fun to hit them with ball bats or blow them up with M-80's. :ashamed: Couldn't tell you why, except maybe accept a dare.
I had my share smashed when I was older and my wife would just tell me, "What goes around, comes around".
But we were random. I don't think we ever did the same one twice. I feel for you.

I was working for a farmer one time welding on a few things before harvest. He had a nice place and is sone made a nice JohnDeere Parcel. It was batted on time and really upset him. He was worried about the liability of a solid box. He had some damage on a patio that had a granite arch way in it and had ordered a pink granite stave from a stone company in MO. THe Parcel box was for UPS deliveries and Fedex. He started the harvest and never checked the box. I came to work for him and saw a bent box, big pink chunk of granite on the road shoulder.


I also did some work for another Farmer that got it weekly. We were talking about making an identifying mark on the vehicle doing it. We put 2 1 quart USDOT3 brake fluid cans in his box with the lid off and only the seal on them. facing the door. IT got ball batted that night. A few days later we saw a white escalade that looked like my 94 white CHevy Silverado with bad paint lol.

*That's exactly what I did put up a dummy mail box right beside the real mail box to sort of hide it thus making the fake box easier to see.
Painted it all black so it would look all nice and new.
**That was my idea and it helps hide the real one.

Both boxes are still standing un damaged since i put them up in the 80s.

I saw an older gentleman get tired of having his mailbox run over. He went to HD and got the on piece molded plastic mailbox and post. He flipped it upside down, cut the base of and filled it full of cement. 15 yrs later it is still there with a few battlescars.

I 'm gonna go with the removable post and box idea. Its a solution .

Cam, snakes, skunk smell, springs, swivel poles, concrete, and other solutions are all out either due to liability or logistical impossibilities .

I 'm not interested in revenge although revenge is sweet when served up cold . If I ever do somehow catch them with solid proof, I will prosecute to the fullest extent of the law. Not listening to whiny " save my kids " parent talk . Been goin' on too long for that .

I'd put a bomb in it filled with nails and other shrapnel, and if it gets the mail carrier, they will hire a new one right?:laughing:

I've had mine broken more than once. I get cheap ones now. The police busted 3 or 4 kids for this recently, and they are in somewhat serious trouble.

seems like if he blew up his own mailbox then he'd know who to blame.

think about taking the post and remounting on a spring at the bottom. That way, post will just spring back.

My grandfather did that because his kept getting hit by plows...
