I wanted to start a thread by showing my neighbours NH TM115 that he uses to groom the trails in our area. (Part of snowmobille club), but escavater beat me to it. This machine I thought is awesome but I think I like yours better. /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif

Pekabu, defintely 50's material, maybe even 40's. Do you happen to roughly know what year that machine was in production ? Almost looks like something out of "LOST in SPACE !! /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

Here's another wider angle shot of the NH TM115.

We've come a long ways since I started riding; a trail groomer back then was a sled towing a drag made of couple 2X4s with angle iron bolted between them... or an old bedspring tied to a rope.

It's listed as a 1949 C18 school bus. Do you know what kind of drag the pull? We usually use Mogul Masters. We have a 18-09 and a 18-08.

Below is the "Chariot" from the TV show LOST in SPACE. It was made out of a Thiocol Spryte snow cat and actually was capable. After the TV show ended, it was purchased by a ski resort, modified for cold weather, and was used for many years to transport skiers. It is my understanding that it is now back in private ownership and may be being restored to become the Chariot once again?

As for my little Snow Trac, it seats 7, but 5 to 6 are comfortable. I'm completely rebuilding the inside of it and have more plans. My first goal, upon getting it, was to restore it back to original, now that it is mostly there, I'm going to do some selective upgrades like add a wood dash, AM/FM/CD, Magellin Meridian-Color GPS unit, XM radio, CB radio and a HEATER!!!!

Thanks for the link. Did you drive the BR120? Looks like a 4person cab? One issue with these groomers is that theres no space for emergency clothing. I prefer not to where all my cold winter gear when grooming but it really stinks when you break down out in the woods and have to walk out.

I see Mogul Master and Arrowhead drags, but what about the one behind the JD? Looks like there may be others?

Bob,
Did you post pictures of your rebuild process for the Snow Track? If you did, could you post a link, I can't find it. If you didn't, could you post a few intermediate pics, just to get an idea? You know, before and after type stuff.

Worse than that, did you hear about the guy who put a groomer through the ice up above Millinockett a few years ago? He went to the bottom with it in 25 feet of water. Luckily he came back up through the same hole.

They weren't long moving the trail onto land after that.

Because mine is for family & recreational use, I've been giving this a lot of thought, and my needs are far different that the folks out in real remote regions. Here in the midwestern states, I doubt I would be out of CB radio or Cellphone range in most areas that I would travel, I can't imagine anyone being lost around here for multiple days but it is reasonable to assume a breakdown would yeild one very uncomfortable night and maybe a bit longer. So my plan is for a pack that will fit under the right side passenger seat and will be divided into a tool kit for repairs and a modest survival kit.

In the survival kit: 3 MREs, 6 granola/energy bars, Beef Jerky, first aid kit, 3(?) 100% wool blankets, 3 space blankets, 9 chemical hand warmers, water proof matches, spark stick, 2 LED flashlights, fresh alkaline batteries each season, 2 hunting knives, folding saw, water, 3 flares, duct tape, toilet paper. 3 candles (remove humidity from the air and create some heat). The point is really to be comfortable and safe for a reasonably short period, hopefully inside the cabin. This is not much more than would be carried in my SUV in the winter but in this area I think it is sufficient.

In the tool kit, are basic tools. The Snow Trac is a very simple vehicle. Basic wrenches, screwdrivers, nut drivers, pliers are all that is really necessary to maintain these. 6 chemical light sticks (they are windproof and could aid in a repair at dusk/night) A very sharp knife, like a carpet knife, would help with track repair. The 'variator belt' is probably the area of most concern, it controls the power to the tracks, an extra belt would be necessary in remote areas, I don't have one, I plan to get one. A fan belt. Some extra belting for the tracks would be excellent to carry, I'm planning on making a 24" run of track that could be cut into place as a repair. A good snow shovel, maybe 2 of them! 2 - 2"x30' tow straps.

Cliff . . . no. I did not. I'm still working on the interior and have taken pictures of the inside of the cabin, but not nearly enough. Right now it is useable and we've had some fun with it this year. Yesterday I finished the bench seats by making some padded and upholstered seats to put onto the metal seat pans (we had been using rubber mats to sit on, but they have 2" of foam padding now)
