Antifreeze is 50% water, so no it is not a valid test. You have to use
the specific gravity (density) to determine proper dilution. The little
floaty ball thingy you can get at Napa. The proper name is a
hydrometer.

I was talking about checkingto see if there was antifreeze in the oil.

Yes and no, if the water portion is still present yes it will, if the water has
been driven off by the heat of the engine running and only the glycol is
left behind no it will not. But they do make glycol test kits.

Should I plan on doing the 300 hour service some time next year, even though it won't have close to 300 hours on it?

Cars & Parts Antique car magazine had an tech article about this 12-15 years back on show cars that are used very little. They did oil testing and it was found a car that was used very little with oil changes every 2-3 years was nearly as harmful as dirty oil with high miles on it. The article recommended to change the oil every year if you had low to moderate use of the car.
I can't remember the exact article but it was the moisture and acids and other contaminants as others have mentioned. C&P is a highly respectable source of info and their tech articles are world class.
I have a '06 Tc45a I bought new and I changed the hydraulic oil & filter this year at 150 hours and my tractor sits in a ac/heated garage.
As another poster said above it's probably better on the tractor if the hours are put on quickly and the oil is changed as recommended by NH versus older oil sitting in the tractor over a period of many years.
Something else I recommend is to take your tractor out every so often and run it up and down the road a few times to get it up to temperature and keep the seals lubricated and keep the clutch from sticking and run and down the 3 pt hitch and even turn on the pto. I also hit the brakes 10-12 times to keep everything in order.
