Mahindra 4025
I have a 9 month old 4025 which currently has just under 40 hours. I pretty clearly remember being told or reading that the basic fluids need to be changed at 50 hours. Tonight I got out my Manuel to confirm and was surprised to read that the first oil recommendation was 200 hours and the transmission 250. Can anyone clarify this for me? I can't seem to find maintenance recommendations on the Mahindra website.

Mahindra One,
The recommended time changes in the manual seem to be a little long on my transmission/hydraulic fluid. My 6520'a manual states 1000 hours for it.

The engine oil states change it at the first 50 hours and at every 250 hours thereafter.

I must have a different manual than you cause as I said my engine oil change is recommended at 200. I think I am going to change it at 50, it will make me feel better. As for the hydraulics's, I think I will wait. Do you know if there is a magnetic plug for that I should clean? Thanks for the info.

Your tractor has a hydraulic filter and a screen. I have the same tractor and my manual says "clean" the screen at 50 hours. I am just going to change all of it at the 50 hour mark and be done with it. My maintenance program will probably exceed the manufacturers suggestions as it sounds you will be doing the same. Check " Bills Tractor" just outside of San Antonio TX., he seems to have good pricing on complete filter packages specific to your machine.

You have a different manual because you have a 25 series and I have a 20 series tractor. You will find not many will have the same hours for scheduled mx.

I plan on buying my next hydraulic filters from Bills. The other filters run the about the same at my dealer as they do at Bills.

Time OR hours for engine oil...I changed my engine oil/filter at about 40 hrs...and every year/or 100 hrs after that...trans oil (90Wt...not trans hyd oil) was called for at 1000 hrs...I noted some moisture (heat/cold/heat/cold...summer winter) in the trans oil so I changed it at about 250hrs...checked it a couple of days ago..perfect at 475hrs. That seems to be an error in the manual, at 50 hrs all fluids and filters should be replaced(on all new tractors IMHO) and then follow the schedule, I have a 4510 and the Mahindra dealer is one of my best friends, he fights this battle enough that he has started including the 50 hr in the selling price with some customers.

My dealer says 50 hours.

What is the average cost to have the dealer do your 50 hour service for you?

My manual says the same thing on tran/hyd fluid, but it also said to change the tran/hyd filter and clean the screen at 50. You can't pull the filter and screen without dumping fluid all over the place, so I went ahead and changed the fluid too. Once the 50 hour break change is done, 1000 hours isn't that long on tranny fluid. It doesn't get diluted by diesel fuel and contaminated by exhaust particles like motor oil does.

I have found the manual for my 3550 to be horrible. It has conflicting recommendations on hyd fluid in the text and in the chart, and the specific brands it gives as examples are not sold in the US. Photos of the all-black components are hard to see, and some don't match up with my tractor. Common sense has to prevail over the manual in some cases.

It say it in the manual just in a different spot than you would think.. its on the chart if im thinking right.. but its oil and filter at 50 hours

On my manual, the 50 hour maintenance is indicated by the # sign on the fold out sheet in the back. All the other maintenance is indicated by a solid black square. It does not say to change the transmission fluid at 50 hours, only at 1,000.

right but they call for a strainer cleaning every filter change... which requires draining the oil.

Mine calls for a strainer cleaning every fluid change, not at the filter change. It does not call for fluid to be changed until 1000 hours. It calls for the strainer to be cleaned at 50. The manual isn't very good.

No that one especially... hard for me to believe 1,000 hours. We change it once a year for most customers if they choose to.

Well mine says 50 for the filter and 100 for the first oil change which is downright stupid. Ever who is doing manuals for Mahindra has their heads right up their backsides, that much is clearly evident. The really sad part is, Mahindra obviously doesn't give a crap but they should know that ends up speaking loudly to potential new customers. Pretty soon they will learn the sad truth that no matter how much they piss away in marketing costs it won't matter or help improve new tractor sales and it will be game over. Eventually they'll be wishing they'd spent 10 times what they are now in after sales support and documentation to do the job right. Selling into a tide of unhappy and ticked off customers is an almost impossible feat now matter how much money you throw at it.
