I did a similar dumb thing when I was new to trailering my M7040 kubota. I had the trailor and truck on a gravel driveway pointing slightly down hill (first dumb mistake). Truck was in gear, turned off, with parking break engaged. Rototiller on back of tractor. I was easing the tractor onto the trailer slowly, but the tines on the tiller got caught in the ramps of the trailer, causing them to flip up enough to remove all support from the back of the trailer. That caused the whole rig to start skidding slowly down the driveway, with the tractor hanging off the back of the trailer. I was sitting on the tractor waiting for it to stop, but it didn't. Not getting faster either, just sort of slowly skidding down. Unfortunately, 20 ft ahead there was a short, steep section of the driveway leading down to the road, and on the other side of the road was long steep slope with a creek at the bottom. I jumped off the tractor, ran to the truck, got in, turned it on, and threw it into reverse. Luckily that worked, and just in time. Now I always chock the wheels, regardless of the situation. I count that as one of the dumbest things I've ever done, and it was only luck that I didn't end up with a twisted pile of wreckage in the creek.

I LOL'd pretty hard at that. That trailer was like an automatic wheelwell removal machine:laughing:

On the upside, he now has a real nice aluminum flat deck... Hey, its only money;)

I recently had a trailer incident that could have been worse. I was towing a Honda CRV on my low boy trailer from Florida to Texas. My incident was loading the CRV. I connected the trailer to my truck but could not lock the the trailer. I had to move the tow vehicle forward in order for the lock to engage. So I set everything up. I use 7' wooden ramps along with 3 supports along the bottom. Two wooden block at rear of trailer. Then I use a wooden block under the trailer jack to lift the front end and lower the rear of the trailer to have more of a straight line from ground to trailer. Everything looked good. The trailer and truck lifted until the trailer touched the rear blocks. I was set for loading.

I guided the driver to slowly drive the CRV onto the trailer, the CRV started going up the trailer and the trailer slowly lowered to place weight on the rear blocks. Then all of sudden the trailer separated from the truck. The safety chains held it from really going wild. The weight then shifted down as the CRV moved forward and the trailer tongue moved down below the tow hitch and rested on the trailer jack. I had the drive stop and just remain in the CRV while I studied for a solution. I had a 2 ton floor jack with me so that was a possible solution just raise the trailer and reposition the tow vehicle. I then figured, try the trailer jack and see if it could raise the tongue above the hitch ball. Sure enough that worked. Then I had a few inches of movement in the chains to reposition the tow vehicle for the connection.

My problem started when I moved the tow vehicle forward in order to lock the trailer lock. I did not lock the lock or I did not lock it properly. As luck would have it when I raised the trailer tongue to lower the trailer rear end, the truck and trailer lifted as one. Somehow the coupling was wedged in such a way that I was able to lift both truck and trailer or maybe I set the lock but not fully. I still do not know what I did. So I thought all was good to go. With the added weight of the CRV, the trailer separated. I had tow vehicle and trailer wheels blocked. I think it could have been worse if the trailer or truck had moved.
