Of course it is a different world, we only had to know how to get to the Tastee Freeze, and in winter when it closed, there was nowhere we really needed to get to.

Taco Bell hadn't come along yet. I never knew the "Bell" in Taco Bell was the founder's name.

Yep, I knew where the Tastee Freeze was and the Dairy Queen. I also knew where the root beer stand was, my dad's favorite cafe, and the place in town with the best chicken-fried steak dinner for $1.50.:licking: I also remember the first Kentucky Fried Chicken and how astounded we were that it could taste so good. I'd crawl through a mile of broken glass covered in chicken grease just for a bucket.:D I also remember when there was only one Mexican restaurant in town and we thought pizza and spaghetti were the only kinds of Italian food. Seafood was only catfish and shrimp. It should be no surprise that in high school when I had my first taste of African curry, I was completely blown away. My eyes were opened to the fact that there were many delicious foods I had never tried.

It is a bit mind boggling to consider all the fast food businesses that developed in our lifetimes.

Locally, we don't have a lot of the restaurant chains. Burger King, McD's, the standard Taco Bell/KFC combo, Subway, Pizza Hut, and two Dunkin Donuts locations are the offerings in Farmington, the nearest town. Even that is a lot given a population of 7,760. There is a local UMaine branch with ~2000 students, I don't know if they are represented in the census.

I would guess, just from the traffic, that Dunkin Donuts, Subway and McD's do the bulk of the business.
