Making concrete porch slip resistant

Adding non-skid is a very common practice with boats. There are a number of products besides sand and various coatings to hold them. Look into how it's done on boats to get some ideas.

Get a concrete guy to grind the porch down with a circular large area disk grinder to remove the slickness, and leave a swirl pattern on the surface.

This is a good idea. Add some texture to the surface. Do it once.

another question - My porches were sealed when the house was built in 2006 - How often do they need to be sealed OR do they need to be sealed?

Thanks for all the suggestions.. Keep them coming if you have them..

Ill be googling using the stuff you have mentioned already..

thanks

If they are slippery because the concrete was polished ( burnished ) when laid I would think that just spraying it with metricate acid then washing it off would fix the slippery problem unless you would like to paint it.

Another option. (which I did at my entrance way)

I used epoxy based tile cement (mortar) and laid nice non slip 12 x 12 tiles.
Created a snazzy entrance way and solved the slippage problem.
About 7-8 years and looks great.
