Now that i have an mp3 player ( creative zen nano plus ).. I need to make some mp3 files.

I know that I can 'rip' tracks from a pre-recorded cd and save to my HDD using windows media play and it saves as mp3. However. I have some wav files already saved and wonder how to convert them to mp3.. can windows media player do this?

thanks

Not sure, I haven't gotten into the mp3 players (yet). I would think you should be able to save anything that windows media player can play. When you have a wav file open in media player try clicking on "file" and then "save media as". It should give you the option in a drop down box as to what type of file you want to save it as.

Yes it will Look under >tools> plugins> windows audio converter.

You might have to download/install the converter if you do not have it installed

The easiest is iTunes - free download from Apple.com - runs on windows too. If you ripp your music CDs while connected to internet it is capable of fetching songs details from Gracenote CDDB. It is much easier than replacing Track 1, Track 2 with actuall song names.

I would also use iTunes. Apple software is just vastly superior to buggy Microsoft software. And the user interfaces aren't even in the same league.

Thanks for the info guys. so far i have not found where WMP will convert file types.. perhaps I don't have the converter.

in any case. i see that WMP will make WMA files, and my MP3 player likes them. i also see that sonic and nero will rip to either wma or mp3.. so tht is nice.

The nano came with software to rip as well, and even though it claims to be a mp3 player.. the 'prefered' method of ripping from it's own software, is wma format.. go figure.

I'd still like to investigate that windows audio converter.. I have plenty of wav files I'd like to convert.

thanks

I evidentally don't have the converter.. i went to the 'download' option and it took me to windows media page.. there was no converter listed that changed audio formats ???

Me thinks thou make it too hard. Assuming you have XP

Contol panel>addremove programs>add remove windows componets>windows digital media enhancements>windows audio converter.

I also have I tunes as others have sugested but it does not covert files as easy as the widows converter. Nero is pretty good also but not if you have to buy it.

Soundguy,

Download a free copy of Audacity from www.[SIZE=-1]audacity.sourceforge.net

It should do what you want to do, and the price is right.
