Making the leap to the country

Best wishes in regards to all your future endeavors. As others have previously stated, build larger than you think you will need, that is if finances allow the expansion.

It's a big leap, but filled with adventure. We love it, would't trade it for anything. Everybody is right about shop/barn size. I built a 30x50' Quonset suing the back 14'x30 as a living quarters. With a loft it's about 500 sq ft, then that left a 36x30 workshop......WAY TOO SMALL!!!!!!!!!!!! If I could do it again I would have gone with a 50x80 or 100 but I bought and built all I could afford at the time. So if you can swing it, go for a 40x60 or better....you will never regret it.

Just say no to this train wreck:

Congrats on your new adventure. I now have two years experience dealing with Mesquites here in Arizona and I have learned a few things. One it is not the size of the mesquite above ground that determines the root size. I have seen big mesquites come up without a problem and small ones have root systems that seemed endless. The other thing I have learned is if the mesquites have a hill of dirt around them nine times out of ten there was a rattlesnake waiting for me. One thing positive is that the mesquite beans make a nice flour and is expensive to buy.

Oh one last thing. My big lab loves to eat the beans and then he empties the room when he is full of gas. Just warning you.
