Re: Makita 10\" Slide Dual Compound Miter Saw

I just bought a DeWalt 12" slider from Maxtool . They offer refurbished units in addition to new tools. I paid $499 for the refurbished unit plus about $40 in shipping. Folks are right, it's a beast. Best to be set up and left from what I can see. As a point of interest, the tool looked brand new to me. I also bought a DeWalt worm drive circular saw that was refurbished. I can't tell either one of them from new. I also got a cool swiss army knife and a combination rechargeable car starter/air compressor as promo items.

I don't have any experience with the Makita, but other Makita tools I have used were good. The only negative I could propose is that a 12" blade should cut wider and taller stock than a 10" blade.

I have one, the 10" blades are much easier to find and cheaper than 12" blades. A big reason I bought the Makita over the DeWalt. I don't know about the new Bosch, but as mentioned the portable table to mount the saw too is needed.

Many times the portable mount consists of two sawhorses, a plank and some blocks of wood to act as supports. Probably cheaper and much more sturdy than the portable stands.

If mainly used from a fixed location a sturdy stand with lots of length is really nice.

All the new sliding miter saws look nice. There are many more on the market than there were when I purchesd a Delta Sidekick that had a folding stand.

I bought the Bosch and it is a great saw. Barter with the dealers and you can get this saw at a good price. I paid $590.00 for mine. At that price it is a good machine.

THe Makita is an execellent saw as well. If you do not have the need for a 12 inch I would buy one in no questions asked.

Now-now I do have sliding Delta with attached stand. [ picture attached ] It's just that it's not that sturdy and good for only short lengths.

Re: Makita 10\" Slide Dual Compound Miter Saw

Higgy, I'm embarrassed to say that I spent all of my free time this weekend just finding a place to put them. /forums/images/graemlins/blush.gif I did plug them in and start them up (nice!) and look them over carefully, but they won't see wood until this weekend. Since I've never owned any really expensive power tools besides my Porter Cable cordless stuff, I don't really have a valid point of comparison yet. However, they look fantastic to me, with beefy metal parts all over the place, and a nice solid feel. The miter saw slides smooth as butter. The worm drive is much quieter than my old saw. They are things of beauty, and I'm tickled pink. I easy to see how buying power tools could become addictive. /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif

Re: Makita 10\" Slide Dual Compound Miter Saw

you've probably already made your purchase, but a friend recently bought what he said was a hitachi, sorry about the spelling, compound laser guided, 10 inch saw, for less than $500...i am going to try to sell my like new, very seldom used craftsman radial arm saw and get a new miter saw, so let us know what you settle on and how you like it.
