Re: Makita 10\" Slide Dual Compound Miter Saw

Sorry Egon, I was trying to refer to the "cheaper" part of your statement. How are we supposed to justify buying these neat attachments, add-ons, etc. when a just a pair of sawhorses and some scrap lumber will make do? Are you single handedly trying to wreck the "global economy"? /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

Ahh - Cheaper isn't all - you get better support for long heavy boards. The stand on my Delta just don't cut it with long heavy stuff.

But on the economic side you could always get a dedicated mortiser for building sawhorses!!

Re: Makita 10\" Slide Dual Compound Miter Saw

I have an old Delta compound miter saw that works as a slide style only (no chop function) that has it's own folding base. It's a great tool for taking to the job for finish work. Sadly, since I traded in my rental properties for two business degrees and a graduate degree in law (none of which are mine), that old saw and stand has collected a lot of dust standing up in the corner. If I get to build next year I'm hopeful that will change. /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif

Re: Makita 10\" Slide Dual Compound Miter Saw

I've had this saw for a few years ?? and been very happy with it. I built a rolling stand to mount it on when in my shop so that the height matches my cabinet saw and the router table. That ensures that I have support for long stock if needed. When I need to use it away from the shop it's no problem to remove it from the stand and rig a stand at the remote job site.

I bought myself the new 10" Bosch slider this past week, and can only say "wow". Now, I need one of those portable stands with wheels.

i just got back from lowes. the 10 hitachi compound slider, with laser, is $499; the 10 hitachi compound with laser, is $180, that one is not a slider type.
hitachi makes some pretty good equipment, even though they are into about everything.
