That's tough, Von, and something for others to think about. Those guys had to have been very familiar with the weight of hay bales and the kind of injuries they can cause. If it could happen to one of them, think of what can happen to those who are not familiar with handling hay bales. I think a lot of folks have just never imagined how heavy tightly packed "grass" can be.

Sounds like the combination of the weight and his head striking metal did it.
Seems to be one or two people crushed by them every year around here. Very tragic. Most seem to be people getting rolled over or pinned under them when working by themselves.

Last year, in our town, a semi-truck carrying a load of round bales went through, and one came undone, and flew off and hit a pedestrian ( woman ) killed her instantly.
I found it really sad too, as she had a familly, and the likely hood of being killed by a flying round bale of hay in the city probably seemed reel low.... I guess when the big guy wants , i guess there is no avoiding it....
