Man killed while felling trees

/ Man killed while felling trees #71
When I had this tree on the down it was so large that the upper portion was 6 feet off the ground.

I was standing on the tree cutting the branches loose when I slipped on the wet wood and fell to the ground. Happened so fast I didn't have time to throw the saw and it fell on my arm.

What saved me was that every time I would reposition to make another cut I would lock the blade. If I hadn't I might now be called lefty.

As I said before.............I hate cutting trees. If I was a cat my nine lives would be about used up.

WCarlson,

I like that big slingshot. Thanks for the link. Think I'll put it on my Christmas list! Spent so much on tractor and attachments, lately, the piggy bank is a bit thin.

Tom

P.S. I know a guy in CT that makes a CO2 powered "bolt gun" designed for the same use. It is a lot more expensive than that "Bigshot" but he has some utilities and municipalities that swear by it. If any one is interested, I can get contact info.

Rope saw - They are very handy when you want to literally keep both feet on the ground.

Thanks for info. Yes, keeping both feet on the ground always feels safer. I have a Stihl Pole saw 75 model. Let's you cut from a distance. After reading all these posts on accidents, etc. it seems even more clear the safest thing is staying out of the way. Thanks again.
