Manual Specifies TF500 fluid... ???

My 50 hour maintenance is coming up. The manual for my Branson 3510 specifies TF500 fluid for the rear tranny/hydraulic system -- about 10 gallons of it.

When I was picking up my bush hog I bought 15 gallons of 76 Hydraulic/Tractor fluid. The mechanic at Rogue Valley Farm Equipment assured me that this would work -- but I want to know for sure. Nowhere on the 5-gallon bucket does it say TF500. Nor UTF, or any other acronym that has been bandied about on these pages. I haven't even seen anyone say "I use 76 Hydraulic/Tractor fluid in my ______. Am I missing something? Computers I can deal with... but this tractor makes me feel stupid.

Is your 76 hydraulic/tractor fluid a UTF fluid.. look on it for compatibilities.. if it is equivalent to hytran, hygaurd.. NH M2c134d or JD 303 fluid.. it is a UTF fluid.

That said.. most tractors that use common sumps for hyds, tranny, and diffy use UTF ( but not all aparently! )

Different manufacturers have different names. For instance.. at work, we use FINA oil products. Thier version of UTF is TF56 standing for torque fluid 56... perhaps yours is similar.

Check it out before using it..

Hey, thanks, SoundGuy! That was exactly the kind of help I needed. There was, indeed, a compatabilities list of sorts. it says Recommended for: Case MS-1210 (TCH Fluid), MS-1207 (Hy-tran Plus), MS-1206 (PTF), JIC185 (TFD Fluid); John Deere J20-C (Hy-Gard), J14C (type 303 fluid); Ford New Holland FNHA-2-C-201 , M2C134D; Kubota UDT Fluid;... Permatran... Type 55... The list is long.

I guess it'll do. Same fluid is spec'd for the front transaxle. For engine oil they sold me Delo 400 15W-40 which I see a lot of folks here use. That 50 hour mark is looming -- and me with a new brush hog and post hole digger!

Well, then that 76 fluid is indeed a UTF fluid.

Sounds like that is what your system needs. Would have been nice if they would have listed the specs on the tf500.. but I think you are on the right track.

15/40 is common weight for diesels.. and delo is a commonly touted name here.

Standards would be nice, but it seems that every producer has a different name for this fluid. Wish they would just state somewhere that "This Here is UTF".
