Manual tree pole pruner, what's the trick?

I recently bought that pruner and the problem I'm having is that on the first bite the blade gets caught in the branch

I got a Silky HAYAUCHI some time ago and I rather like it It gets up 21 feet.
The saw on yours looks about the same.
It has a little blade that you are supposed to slam into the underside of the branch to stop the bark from peeling. Then the saw is to be laid across the upper part of the branch and you saw till the branch falls.
Can't tell you how often I've considered just getting a rifle out to do the same job.
I can't imagine trying to take a large branch by nipping it with the shear function. But I suppose practice may get you there.

What do you mean by 'nibbling'? Are you trying to get through a branch with multiple nibbles? If so, that won't work very well, if at all.

I have a Fisker's pole pruner similar to the one you linked to. Every branch I cut with it is cut with one pull of the rope. If the branch doesn't fit into the opening, I use the saw instead of the pruner.

To cut a branch with the saw, make a cut 1/3 of the way through the branch from the underside, then make a 2nd cut from the top, about an inch outward from the first cut. The branch will fall and snap off instead of stringing the bark and/or wood out.

I looked for an electric saw with a 20+ foot pole and apparently, there isn't one.

That would be extremely unwieldly to handle. The weight of the head would counter act the handle. I use the HF Portland 110 volt electric pole trimmer in conjunction with an extension cord and my portable gas driven Inverter generator in the back of the side-by-side.

My only issue with the Portland trimmer is it's very small bar oil tank which necessitates filling often.

Approximately sixty years ago, a right of way crew came through the yard and before my elders snatched me away from the great event, I got a glimpse of a worker using the shear on the end of a pole to nibble away at a large branch and cut it. The saw works , but I'd like to lean to use the the nibbling technique with the shear.

If anyone knows the trick to nibbling through a limb with a rope operated pole pruner, please let me know.

I would need about 1000 ft of extension cord. Not practical.

Very practical for me. Genny in the bed of the side by side and a 25 foot extension cord to the pole trimmer. The inverter genny I use (Champion 2000 watt) is very portable, sips gas and has automatic idle down when nothing is drawing power. On fact I use it quite a lot in the side by side for powering 110 volt tools in the field. No need to be concerned with rechargeable tools running low on power.

I have cut up to 1-1/2" limbs with it and I am 78 years old.
I had the big box stores units and they have trouble cutting anything but really small limbs. They seem to get jammed a lot as was mentioned earlier.
You can buy just the head for less money but be sure you buy the compound pulley setup. This pulley system makes a huge difference but you need to pull twice the rope thru to make the cut. I have an electric trimmer but the higher you go the harder it is to control. I rarely use the electric because of my lack of control. Using either electric or the pruner mentioned above you will end up at some point under part of the limb when it comes down. Wearing a good arborist hard hat with face shield will save an eye/head injury and trip to emergency room.

I buy my cutter bars and saw chain from them as a rule. Good outfit.
