In a previous thread, it was mentioned that a manual diverter would also work for diverting the curl to a 3ph tilt. The manual runs a whole heck of a lot less than an electric diverter. What is the benefit to buying an electric instead of manual?

Ease of use.

To activate a manual diverter you must remove your hand from the loader joystick and turn a lever similar to a ball valve, put your hand back on the joystick and perform the diverted function, then remove your hand from the joystick and move the lever back, then put you hand back on the joystick. That's 4 specific manual operations.

To activate an electric diverter that has the toggle switch mounted on the joystick lever (like most installations) all you have to do is keeping your hand on the joystick, move your finger to the switch and activate it, move the joystick to perform the diverted function, then release the switch. Your hand NEVER leaves the joystick.

It's a real no brainer.

Thanks for the quick response. Maybe I'm just getting old, have got more time on my hands and don't want to spend more of my retirement funds than I need to but I just can't see spending over $300 more for something that does the same thing. In writing this, I feel like I'm being rude but don't mean to be. If you have the bucks, I'm sure the electric would be faster. However, I'm sure there are alot of us who would like to get a diverter and a grapple or some other attachment for a little more than the cost of an electric diverter. I appreciate it Mad that you cleared up this for me. For those that don't agree with me, all I ask is please don't flame me. Constructive criticism is appreciated.

Harris,
I don't think your gonna get flamed here, but here is my take...

Besides the obvious that Mad mentioned, think about were you will mount the manual diverter to be able to reach it comfortably. Then imagine how you will route six 1/4" or 3/8" hydraulic hoses to this location. Will all those hoses get in the way of operation or removal of the FEL?
That is the other advantage of the electric unit, it is mounted out of the way near the existing FEL connections, and only a wire needs to be brought to the operators station.

I mounted mine on the right side FEL mast, so it comes off with the FEL.
