As a follow up to other posts, I think JD is the brand when it comes to large AG tractors. I am 52, and I grew up working on dairy farms with 1960 and 1970's JD tractors. My cousin runs a 500 acre, 200 cow dairy farm and have used JD tractors for the last 50 years. We also had a JD dealership in our small village (600 people) that met all the farmers needs, as well as selling lawn and garden equipment, chainsaws, snowmobiles, and even bicycles to everyone.

Those days are gone. I buy Kubotas because they and their dealers seem to be much more in tune with the needs of small tractor buyers. The dealership where I bought my last 2 Kubotas sold JD, they had their franchise pulled in the late 2000's-they actually weren't too concerned, as they told me they sold 20 Kubotas for every large JD AG tractor.

I do have to laugh a little bit when folks state that based on their casual or even hardcore observance to a forum that one product is superior or better supported than another. To me its just a forum/s, lots of folks contribute and take away info from all of them. I see it kind of like some political forums, they may start out with a really large cross section of posters but from my casual observance they eventually get rather lopsided as it seems to me many folks (right or wrong) would rather converse with others that share their opinions. Just that.... opinions. One could make the point that due to the "seemingly" high # of Kubota promoter's and/or Deere detractors that just maybe there is a fair # of folks who choose to get the info they need from other venues (it's probably not right just what I observe). This does not mean that I believe that asking of the question is a waste, it can be very informative to see how others have formed their opinion if you are able to read between the lines. This is of course all IMAO. Now that I have made the exact same statement that I claim to laugh about I will sit here silently and chuckle for a moment at my own straw man argument realizing that I really haven't said anything at all ;) .

A wouldn't mind messing up the orange color scheme with a 1960's model JD to mow with, but I will take a new Kubota ofer a new JD any day. I also hate the separate forward and reverse pedal on a JD, and what kind of moron who probably has never used a tractor decided to put the brake on the left side?

Here is another perspective. I have only owned one tractor, a John Deere. Bought it purely because of price, it was an unreal deal. However, to my point, I actually like the separate forward and reverse pedals and the brake on the left, seems natural to me. Trust me, I looked at all brands and test drove several. But when I called this dealer 100 miles away and he sold me the 3032E with FEL, brush hog, rear blade loaded tires delivered to my house for under $19k, it was a no brainer. Even with a Kubota Dealer 10 miles from me, I could not justify the price difference. If the Kubota would have been cheaper, I'm sure I would have bought it.

I just spent $10,140.00 CDN replacing the much newer transmission on our 1300 hr old JD with an older different style one. All because the original was PURE JUNK (from day one) and I just couldn't stand it anymore. Not so impressed with JD "Quality".

On a hydro transmission tractor, the forward / reverse pedal or pedals are on the right side. I guess the question is - how do you operate the independent rear wheel brakes if the brake pedals are not on the left side?

Or, do Kubota owners have two right legs...?

BTW - the Ford / New Holland "morons" put the independent brake pedals on the left side on the 1720 that I owned...

On my late 70's IH2500b tractor loader the forward and reverse pedals were on the left and the split brake pedals were on the right. When I went to look at new tractors I was stumped when I saw brakes and direction pedals on the same side. Why did they do that???
