Not sure anymore about who builds what but I believe Yanmar to be one of the highest quality names on the planet! Curious, if they are still partly owned by JD?

I don't know if they were ever "partly" owned at all. I know JD contracted then to build much of their 80's tractors. The 50 series tractors were all Yanmar made to JD specs and is why parts are getting so scarce for one of the best compact series ever made. A real shame in my opinion. They continued their partnership as the years went by but eventually dwindled to a much lesser scale. In earlier years JD chainsaws were Echoes. They then switched to Olympyk the Italian maker (which is now Efco). That's some of the trouble encountered with companies that farm out their stuff for guys like me who like to keep things till they crack in half. No parts support.

Why do you think this happens with the parts? Is it the original manufacturer's fault, like Yanmar, or does the sourcer, like JD, cause the problem? Or as I suspect, maybe a little of both, and too few sold.It also seems that parts for older machines in general are becoming a problem, not available for as long a period of time, whether outsourced or not.

Congrads! I had driven one and they are well built and real nice. I did however settle for the Kubota L4600 but that was my next joice. Goodluck to you

Both Yanmar and John Deere list their ventures to import tractors from Japan into the USA as "an agreement" in 1977 on the history sections of their websites. I've searched the webs hard to find any data about shareholder information between the two but came up empty.

One positive development for those of use who plan to keep our Yanmar powered tractors for awhile, Yanmar has started a new business in the USA to re-manufacture/rebuild its diesel engines. Yanmar predicts the market to rebuild diesel engines in the USA alone will be worth 21 billion. That should mean lots of Yanmar parts in the USA for the long run.

I know this tractor specifically is assembled in GA with Japanese parts.

I'll definitely get some pics posted here soon of both our project and the tractor leading the charge. Grapple and other equipment should arrive this week so I should get the tractor by the middle of next week.

Picked up few used implements yesterday: 6' box blade (200), York Rake 7' (225), Fertilizer spreader (100), Tree boom (50). They need a bit of work to work the rust off but I need to save a little money after this purchase!

Still trying to find a mower, really wanted a flail mower but just hoping I run across a new one instead of the 2k for a new one. I was looking at the Valueline Hydraulic 60" flail mower. Love the ideal of being able to shift it left to right depending on where I'm mowing as I drive.

I could get a new engine for my JD 750 if it needed one. $4000. It was the rest of the tractor that was a problem. If I broke a steering yoke, I would have to hunt one one in a tractor grave yard. If you found one, people were getting $400 for one for a piece the size of your hand. They were scarce and JD no longer supported this tractor. If I sheared a differential, forget it. again, i needed to fine a junk yard. Now, if this "agreement" prevented Yanmar to ever duplicate parts to fit the 50 series, ( which is more than likely the case for JD/Yanmar's) then one is out of luck. I do not know if Kubota owners with 30 year old tractors have this problem.
