Marble\'s Cut, NOW

I managed to find a diamond blade at the orange box store for $15, and cut the marble to size slicker than slicing bread.
Today, I sanded the edges down nice with the DA sander and regular car sanding disks. The initial sanding went well too, other than eating sanding disks real quick.
I'm planning to finish sanding with wet paper on an air jitterbug with water running to remove the dust.
NOW, here comes the problem, wife insists the marble must be sealed, and a food grade sealer MUST be used. I did some searching, and found marble can be sealed with wax, but not white marble. Well, guess what color the free marble is?
Anybody got any ideas on food grade sealer for white marble? I need PIES.

Re: Marble\'s Cut, NOW

Can't you just seal it with a coat of vegetable oil?

Re: Marble\'s Cut, NOW

White mineral oil - food grade - is available from most mineral oil suppliers.
Chevron brand is Superla
Also available from Penreco, Citgo, Witco, and others

Just a thought...

Whatever you decide to use to seal it, try it on one of the scrap pieces first!

Re: Marble\'s Cut, NOW

There's a mineral oil (I think it's mineral oil) I use that's sold for wood cutting boards etc. Obviously food safe and it would accomplish the same thing on marble. (Just don't put any blueberries on it or your marble won't be white anymore!!)/w3tcompact/icons/smile.gif

Re: Marble\'s Cut, NOW

The only drawback to using an oil based sealer on any kind of stone, esp. marble, is that it WILL stain the stone. There are commercial penetrating sealers, that once applied and dried, are food safe. I've used one on my bathroom floor and it seems to work good for that application, although we don't eat anything off that surface./w3tcompact/icons/grin.gif
