I have always said, “anyone who wants to work can get a job”. I’ve even created jobs for myself within the organization I was working for - job development and self preservation.

I doubt what you do and certainly what I did and to some extent still do is what the average person needing a job can just walk in to.

Very true, but the contractors who cannot find enough help will take anyone willing to work and train them. One thing that is different today is the retirement of the baby boomers and not enough younger people to replace them. Our economy was built on a workforce that doesn’t exist today.

There’s a bit of exaggeration in that theory. I see lots of immigrants from poor countries regularly, legal and otherwise. They are the ones who show up every day to do the hard labor jobs. They make up the bulk of farm and ranch labor and they are the ones running chainsaws to do forest thinning, or swinging a hoedad planting trees in a wildfire area. And doing roofing, stucco work, and landscaping.

That is a micro explanation to try and mitigate (or put a good spin on) a macro problem.

I have lots of first hand knowledge of immigrants creating successful, thriving businesses in Texas.

I also see very often overflowing cart after cart at the grocery store being loaded into a brand new trucks paid for with EBT cards. Many times at the checkout I feel like the only person there paying for their groceries with their own money.

My understanding is that there is considerable documentation required to get those cards, and it’s unlikely that too many illegals have those. It’s the lazy citizens that are abusers.

Does the term ”anchor baby” ring any bells? You do not have to be a citizen to benefit from an EBT card. They are essentially being passed out at the border. Part of Bidenomics.

Anchor baby has far proceeded current times. It’s been in the constitution a long time and would require an amendment to change.

I don’t understand your response. That provision has been in the constitution since the 1800s, post civil war. Ignoring an unpopular law isn’t an option. Trying to amend an unworkable law is the appropriate approach. But nobody of either political party tries to amend/ replace unworkable laws, be it anchor baby or immigration. Unresolved problems make conveniently reliable campaign rhetoric and good opportunities for finger pointing. I believe in fixing things that are broken and am disgusted with both political parties and people who are polarized either to the left or right.
