This Tooth Bar is GREAT! The fit is perfect!

The following is what I emailed to Markham Welding::)

Dear Melissa and Allen Markham,

I received my Tooth Bar and installed it today. It took less than one hour! I'll have the support blocks welded on by next weekend. I want to thank you both for the excellent communication during and after the ordering process. Melissa you have emailed and left voicemails during every stage of this transaction. Allen, after I received my order, I called you early on a Saturday morning (sorry for that) and asked where on the slots should I install the 1/2" bolts. You were very helpful and extremely nice while informing me. I have purchased many items via the internet and in today's times, I can tell you your company STANDS TALL! I'm going to post a new thread on TractorByNet.com about my experience with your company. Look for it soon! My username is "MUDONTHETIRES". There's already many threads about Markham Welding on there, but I'm adding to them! In closing I'd like to thank you for the perfect fit on my 72" bucket.

Thanks again!:) :) :)
Perry

My Markham toothbar is great too and I use mine all the time. When are you going to get some "Mud On The Tires" of that new tractor and start using it?:D

Next weekend will be completely dedicated to getting "mud on the tires!" I'm diving in to a bunch of dirt work and debris clean up! I can't wait!

I have one also and love it! Markem was great to work with.

One note for the OP...you put your bolts at the wrong end of the slot. It's designed to allow you to loosen the bolts, tap the bar forward to clear the lip of the bucket and then fold back into the bucket.

You have it so you can't move the bar forward. It will work fine that way it's just not as versatile.

I was wondering where I should have put those bolts. I called Mr. Markham Saturday before I installed the tooth bar and he said put the bolts all the way in the back. His reasoning is when the bucket lip starts to wear, you can then loosen the bolts, tap the tooth bar further back for a tighter fit, then tighten the bolts. Being able to flip the tooth bar up to backdrag sounds like a great idea. Oh well, the drilling is done.:(

Im very interested in ordering one.Can you pm me his e mail address.
Also could you take a pic of it folded up,im confused about how it works.
I would have thought looking at the photos, the bolt would be in the front of the slots,so it would pull forward and then flip up,but i guess it must work another way
Please wash that tractor,i saw a spot of dirt on it:D :D :D

I'm going to call Markham Welding first thing Monday morning and ask again where the bolts should be placed. I must have misunderstood him Saturday. I'll post his answer Monday.

I talked with Melissa at Markham Welding this morning. She said the slots in the Tooth Bar were originally designed to have the bolts installed in the very back of the slots. The reason is after a lot of bucket use, the cutting edge of the bucket will wear down creating slack between the bucket and the Tooth Bar. When this happens, you simply loosen the bolts, tap the Tooth Bar further back, then tighen the bolts. She also stated that people have learned if you install the bolts in the front of the slot you can loosen the bolts then flip the Tooth Bar up when not using. It was not originally designed for that however it does make the Tooth Bar more versatile. I've already drilled the holes as you can see, so where it is is where its at!:) :)

MUDONTHETIRES,
Out of curiousity, how much did you pay for your toothbar?

I have issues with Markem's comment about the cutting edge wearing down and the need to loosen and re-seat the bar further back. Since the teeth of the bar cover the edge how will that area of the edge ever wear down?

I am not an engineer nor do I play on on TV but to me their comment does not make sense. Would a real engineer chime in?

I have stayed in a H.I. Express so maybe that counts for something! Sorry to hi-jack your thread Mudman...

I think Markem is referring to wear from using the loader when the tooth-bar isn't attached.

90% of my Loader Work is done without the tooth-bar being attached... The cutting edge is a wear part and most buckets have a replaceable cutting edge.

I engineer for a living...

My bucket is not yet worn. So does the bucket edge wear on the same taper as is is now? Or does the front of it go away? Otherwise, if the taper is not reduced, those teeth will not go back any further. That slot in them is on a taper, right?

Originally, the Markham toothbar had no slot in it (like mine). That is something relatively new. I assumed the slot was so you could loosen the 1/2" bolts and slide the toothbar off the bucket cutting edge and flip it over to back drag or smooth with the bucket lip? In that case, the bolt should have been put to the very front of the slot to allow that.

Has anybody actually done that? Is there actually enough clearance in that slot to do it? I've never had my toothbar off and back drag with the back of my bucket anyway.
BTW Melissa has to have the sexiest voice on the internet.

There is enough room to flip the toothbar back, but in my bucket it won't lay flat because it hits the top of the bucket. I just take off the toothbar when I'm going to be doing finish grading.

Just received my Markham toothbar for my 2320. Great service and a pleasure to deal with.

Same here. The manual with my FEL specifically says not to use the lip of the bucket for back dragging as that can cause damage to the cylinders. Everything I've read and heard indicates that you should not back drag with the lip of the bucket.

ultrarunner said exactly what Melissa told me today. Your buckets cutting edge will wear over time using it without the tooth bar. They started putting the slot in the tooth bar for that reason. If you use your bucket without the tooth bar attached, the cutting edge will at some point start to wear. Slack will develop between the tooth bar and the bucket. Before you replace your cutting edge, you have the option of loosening the bolts installed in the back of the slots of the tooth bar, and then tap it back to have a snug fit again. As I stated in a post above, Melissa said the "TractorByNet" guys are the ones that had the ingenuity to think of putting the bolts in the front for the flip up option. She also laughingly said she received several calls in the past wanting to know if they were the ones that made the "flip up bar!" It took her awhile to figure out it was their bar.
